I'm a local who visits the park frequently with my dog for trails and to walk around the campground. It's fun to see the different ways people camp. I finally decided it was time to take the plunge and camp overnight myself. It's a beautiful, peaceful place to be.

Campsites are fairly open with little ground foliage, so not much privacy between sites. Some fire rings are nearly by the road. This wasn't a problem at my site, but if you're like me and want the fire ring at the end of the driveway and further into the site, take a look at pics before you book. There is no firewood available for sale within the park. The camp store carries compressed wood shavings. We tried these but they burned hot and fast and didn't create coals for cooking. As someone who makes every effort to not move wood, this was a major ding. I'd recommend buying from a home or business just outside the park. That aside, the campgrounds were quiet, bathrooms appeared to be cleaned daily, soap dispenser was included in the bathrooms. Very close to the visitor center where all tours depart.

We loved visiting during the second week in April. The spring flowers, dogwood and redbud trees were spectacular. The woods were green but not too thick yet. Our non electric cite was very nice. We enjoyed all the trails around the visitors center plus a cave tour.

Clean restrooms. Camp store and showers nearby was a big plus. Nice treed sites with good spacing between campsites.

Everything worked as planned and was able to see what was expected.
