Definitely check out the stores (Coop and Cafe) in Winter Harbor! Everyone in town was super helpful and friendly.
No showers. You get a lot of tent campers its ridiculous that they can't even get a shower. Imagine enjoying your vacation week haveing to wash standing outdoors in a dishpan of water that you heated on your stove. Imagine trying to keep your children clean that week. Imagine if it's chilly. Now trying to keep from freezing while doing that.
No hot water in bathrooms. Again a real letdown for tent campers. See above.
Incomplete recycling service. Canadian parks, just a short drive away offer recycling for all items and often have compost bins for waste food items. Our national parks should lead the way, by example. Many Americans are too lazy to recycle. They need a better example.
No water points throughout the campground. Water weights about eight pounds per gallon. Just imagine parents with a couple small children. How many pounds of water do they have carry in a week. Dispersed water points in campgrounds have been the norm as long as I can remember and I'm 61.
One dishwashing station without hot water for way too many sites. Have you seen the lines of people standing with dishpans full of dishes, maybe in the rain or hot sun waiting for a chance to use the one cold water sink close to them. Maybe the one sink it their loop. And why should they have to was dishes in cold water?
My wife and I have a small comfortable camper so none of these things effects us at all. But it's a shame to see other campers not given the basic services at a national park camp that are considered normal elsewhere.
Drive across the border to any Canadian National Park or Provincial Park and see how it's done. No need to pay for a study or reinvent the wheel just go and have a look.
the reservation system was not easy
