The bathrooms were not functioning during our stay but the portable toilets were clean and well stocked- now that Ive said that onto the main review: this campground is beautiful. We had an ocean view from our tent, all sites have ample space, and layout of the grounds is slightly tiered to give each site more privacy. The site host was friendly and informative. We enjoyed tide pooling and the kids rode bikes. We will be back. This is one of our new favorite spots!

No potable water but the water available can be used for washing dishes. Portable toilets are very clean and since adding an additional 3 this has helped the campers on the south side not have to walk too far in the dark to access them. The campground itself is very lovely with a lot of space between each campsite.

Campground very clean. Bathroom sinks all not available for use. Very little traffic noise due to Hwy. 1 closure further north. While good to use campground-provided firewood,$15/bundle a bit high for what you get (bring kindling or fire starters). Camp hosts friendly and helpful.

Campground was well maintained and very peaceful. Bathrooms were very clean. Unfortunately, all the sinks were broken and there was no potable water due to a recent storm. Sand Dollar Beach and bluff walking path was just across the street and super accessible. We will definitely stay here again.

Plenty of space for a tent. Near bathroom so expect foot traffic going through the site.

I have been camping here for over 50 years. I just keep coming back. The campground is mostly tents, but there are a few small motorhomes. The camp hosts were excellent. The only odd thing was that the sinks in the restrooms were bagged off and unusable, but after consideration that is a positive thing. No one lingers washing their face and brushing their teeth while people are waiting to use the toilets. Maybe parks management should just remove the sinks entirely.

Very clean campsite! No running water in sinks (knew ahead of time). Great location.

A lot of the spaces are tight, and the campground could be updated, but still beautiful, with great sight lines, and a real relaxed vibe.

This is a really nice campground, and my visit last week was my second one. What I liked best:1. The parking pads are paved, and most are reasonably level side-to-side. A few of them have enough of a front-to-back slope that leveling a large RV might require use of wood leveling blocks under your jacks. When you make your reservation, don't forget to check the length of the parking pad so that you can be sure that it's long enough for your rig. Some of the sites are as short as 20 feet, the longest are about 40 feet.2. There are lots of water spigots scattered around, so you generally don't have to walk more than 50 feet from most of the sites to get water.3. It's an easy walk from the campground down to Sand Dollar Beach. Be sure to check the tides for San Simeon on the NOAA website before you leave: the beach completely disappears at high tide, so you want to know in advance when the low tides are going to be during your visit.4. The path down to the beach is a bit rough and rutted for about 200 feet; if you are "older", or just not in the best of shape, I recommend trekking poles to help you get safely through the rough part of the trail.5. There is no water faucet at the Beach parking area. Be sure to bring drinking water for your day at the beach.6. There is a $10 day use fee for the Beach, but if you display your Camping receipt on your mirror, the fee is waived.7. Both times I've been to this campground, the water faucets in the restroom sinks were disabled due to a water shortage. So plan on washing up after using the restroom at your campsite. There is no electric light anywhere in the campground, including the restrooms, so be sure you have a flashlight, as the restrooms are pitch dark after sunset.8. 26 miles south of Plaskett Creek, at Point Piedras Blancas, is an elephant seal rookery beach that is well worth a visit if you make a day trip down the coast during your camping trip.

It was very cold and shady at Plaskett camp ground, No Fires at all no cooking on BBQ. Because of these reasons we moved to LimeKilm Camp ground were we could use fire to cook and heat our group. No hot water, no BBQ's no Fire or heat not fun.

Plaskett Creek Campground is a lovely site. It's located on a very remote section of the Central California Coast, 60 miles south of Monterrey, so getting there is a long drive from just about anywhere else, but well worth it. I was in site #37, and I liked these particular features:
1. The parking pad for site #37 is mostly very flat, and it's long enough that I was able to get both my car and my 10' x 14' tent on the pad.
2. There is a water spigot, and trash cans, just across the road, 20 feet away.
3. The closest restroom is right behind the site, only 60 feet away, so very easy access to both water and the restroom for tent campers.
4. The site is well-shaded for much of the day.
5. The picnic table was extra-large, and in good condition. This would be a good site for a large family.

Being right on the coast, the climate is mild year round; not too hot in summer or too cold in winter; again, very nice for tent camping in any season.
Sand Dollar Beach is only 0.4 miles from Site #37, an easy walk for anyone in reasonably good shape.
The only problems encountered on my visit:
The water system is partially shut down: there's no water in the restroom sinks at all, although the toilets still flush. Several of the restrooms are locked. I was told that this is to reduce stress on the sewage system, which is "having problems", according to the campground host.
The spigots at the campsites are still operating, but the water is non-potable. Drinking water has to be either brought from home, or obtained at Kirk Creek, 5 miles north. I gave the campground 4-star rating instead of 5 stars because of the water situation. If the water problem gets fixed, the campground is definitely worth 5-stars.
There is no electricity anywhere in the campground, thus the restrooms are pitch-dark after nightfall. Be sure to bring a flashlight or two, you'll need them.
I've already made a reservation for next March.
Overall Rating: HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

The campground had a smell
of sewage throughout. The sites have no privacy. One group was loud all night and no one enforced quiet hours. It is across the road from a beautiful beach

EPIC is the one word I can use to describe our experience at Plaskett Creek Campground. Susan met us with a huge smile being tipped off that our group/friends had booked severasl campsites throughout the campground. She was super acommodating and went above and beyond to make sure all campers from our group to those not in our group had a great experience. Adylane was Susan relief after a day and helped us the rest of our stay. Very pleasant and helpful . We could really tell that they love what they do. Who wouldn't, as they live in paradise. The campground itself is beautiful. I have been scouting this spot for the last couple years as an option for a camping trip for my adventure group. Easy access to Sand Dollar beach and very green, well manicured grounds. Campsites vary in size, so make sure that you do your reseaerch before bringing a large RV or plan to have 2 or more vehicles. Some sites are uneven, but overall I would give a 8 out of 10 for the campground. The sinks in the bathrooms were nmot working, but their are fresh water taps throughout the park with really good drinking water. Bathrooms are clean and work well.Enjoy BIG SUR, one of the most beautful spots in California.
