The campsite is great. It is quiet and everyone keeps to themselves. It is near the coast and there is not much around but it is nice to get away from everything. There is no phone reception so be forewarned. Also, the troopers and or police traveling through the 1 highway are terrible. I got pulled over towing a trailer around the corners following the speed limit signs to take corners at 25mph... cop said I was going to slow. Still have not received the ticket but it is what it is. The site itself is very nice and peaceful

Close and walkable to sand dollar beach. Site has clean water and restroom. Site host was friendly and plenty of trees and shade.

Camp sites are spread apart with plenty of elbow room. Many sites are level but few do need leveling blocks or stands for motor homes. Group sites are separated from rest of individual sites which allows privacy for the groups. Beach access is one block north of park entrance. Will return to this campground several times. Cell phone reception is spotty, but does exist.

Really nice campground. Host was very nice and attentive. It was nice to have some space between sites. We walked to the beach every day we were there. We will camp here again!

This is a premier national forest campground, within Big Sur area. A great stop. Be sure to backtrack to the Whale Watcher Inn for breakfast or other meals. The only drawback is bathroom access, while it be flush toilets, was limited. That may continue for a while because of the drought across the region.

Nice, clean campground. Hosts were friendly and seemed attentive. Beach access, for several miles north or south, is limited to small stretch of beach a short walk from campgrounds. No activities or attractions beyond that.

Wonderful area. The campground was quiet and peaceful. The camp host was so attentive and kept the grounds looking great. Bathrooms were clean and smelled fresh. The trash was emptied frequently. This camp host was on it! The area is amazing. Lots of nice hikes. A wonderful short hike to the cliffs to watch the sunset over the ocean

We stayed for one night and could hear the ocean during the night. The beach is a 5 minute walk from the campsite.

This camping ground is one of my favorites , as it is of many others, hence the fact that it is very difficult to find a vacancy here for much of the year. This time I was lucky and got site no.26 for 2 nights. Its a nice , fairly level site ( I have a large Airstream ) and the back end has a large tree for shade. One also has a very nice view of the ocean through a break in the tree line at the western aspect of the camp ground. There are no hookups here at all so its dry camping for the most part, though there are water faucets (no thread on them) and pit toilets . There is also no dump station here. The young camp host Justin, was SO on it and very efficient and helpful and literally on the go non stop all day taking care of the camp ground. He was great. All the other campers here were respectful and observant of the quiet times. Due to the drought there are many areas denuded of any grass and so just dust/ dirt which will probably turn to mud when the rains come. I hope they can plant grass seed/ sod in these areas during the winter. A short walk to sand dollar beach which is beautiful and another nice walk (though very steep) up the Plaskett Ridge road just behind the camp ground. I love this place and highly recommend it. To campers using camp sites such as these, please be courteous and NOT walk or cycle through other campers sites . Its really bad form and poor etiquette and disrespectful of others.

Great space, with lots of room for kiddos to run, and beach across the street.

The good: nice campground (park-like), well maintained, bathrooms were spotless (and were flush toilets rather than pit), sites were relatively spacious (you're not too close to neighbors, so nighttime conversations didn't seem to carry), the hosts were pleasant and accommodating. The bad: no running water in the bathrooms (it's clearly stated on the website that this is the case and there's a justified reason), the sites were all open (so little privacy from one to the next...see the 'good' comment re: park-like), the whole campground was on a gradual slope, so it was hard to find a good spot at any site to find a flat spot to sleep (minor inconvenience), and the biggie...there was no potable water from any spigot (there was no information on the website about this, so if you didn't have lots of water, you could buy it from the campground host or drive to Gorda...I was lucky I had filled my 5 gallon water can before leaving home)

Great stay. We spent plenty of time at the beach and hiking. I also spent quite a bit of time relaxing at camp and enjoying the peaceful surroundings.

I went on a camping trip with a pretty large group of friends. Were all in our early/mid twenties and most of us are experienced campers. Our group didnt cause any issues, we settled our nights right at quiet hours, but there were some campers on the sites next to us who felt the need to complain just because we were a large group and younger looking. The camp ground workers knew we werent causing any trouble, but we did get a warning that we would have to leave if there were any other complaints. It just seems unfair that other campers dont need proof to complain about you. Next time we decide to do a larger group (its a once a year tradition for us since we all live far from each other) we will most likely not come back to this campground.
