After driving 4 1/2 hours and getting within 13 miles of the campground, we found the main highway 1 closed, and had been closed for almost a year. To reach the camp ground we would have to backtrack and drive for another 4 hours at night. We ended up staying at a campground close to where we were. Why would either Kirk campground or Rec.gov not say something when making the reservation, or after when they sent a verification email. When we called rec.gov they were no help on refunding the money, and you can not reach anybody by phone at Kirk creek campground, only email. Too bad because we had a great spot that we paid for and did not use. What happened to the day where you talk to someone at the campground, or someone at the reservation company that actually was familiar with the campground..

This has to be one of the premier campgrounds in North America

Ocean views from just about everywhere! Obviously perimeter sites are better, but the setting is ideal no matter what. Bring plenty of water, and then some extra. Beautiful weather in early to mid October and so many whales every single day. I coul hear them blow from my tent!!!

Great place to go and stay calmed. Probably is a good idea to be ready with a roof during day, because the sun use to be warm after 10 am

Campsites are amazing. No water as stated. Not a lot of shade so it does get hot during the day. Trail to ocean is well marked. Bathrooms were kept clean and stocked

Loved the location but not all grounds are created equal. The raccoons are rampant and at least three snuck up to our tent at night even when we made sure to place all food in the car.

Beautiful spot. Fellow campers were friendly and courteous, as were the camp hosts, who were very accommodating and offered tips on things to do in the area. Great visit!

Amazing campsite. If you can get a spot, go. There’s nothing better in Big Sur.

Saturday nights can be loud. Lots of younger folks partying.

Really amazing place. All the sites were really good, even the ones back by Highway 1. We stayed at site 11 which was very private, but didn't have quite as good views of the ocean from the picnic table as many of the other sites.

This location was absolutely breathtaking. All of the facilities were cleaned periodically, and I found no issue during my stay. The camp host was gracious and accommodating. I would go again and again!
