Amazing campsite. You can occasionally smell the outhouse from campsites C10 and C09

The campground is adjacent to a picturesque lake in a beautiful spot, even after recent horrible fires. Site 9 is one of our favorites because the parking spot is big and you have the lake and its trails right next door. Our only two complaints: (1) the campground was completely packed, and there were about 15 people cooking, talking, and laughing well past midnight next to us (and they didn't use bear storage), and (2) the information online said that this campground had drinking water, but all the water faucets in the campground had "no drinking - nonpotable water" on them, so that could have been really bad if we didn't have enough on our own.

The dog policy at this park is ridiculous. I was told my dog could only be where a car could go. Basically paved areas only. I understand that dogs can be a problem but to ban them from any and all trails is unfair. There should be some trails where leashed dogs are allowed and other where they are not. And for the park ranger to tell me that "you can go outside the park to hike with your dog" defeats the purpose of visiting the park in the first place.

We were a bit hesitant to visit Lassen due to the effects of the 2021 Dixie Fire, but were pleasantly surprised, both with the Summit Lake campgrounds and with the park as a whole. Thanks to previous controlled burns, firefighting efforts, and a bit of luck with the weather, the fire was largely stopped at the main park road. Much of the lesser-visited eastern part of the park sustained heavy damage, but most of the main tourist areas are fine, including Bumpass Hell, Lassen Peak, and Manzanita Lake. The Summit Lake campgrounds are right on the edge of the fire zone and, as such, provide a fascinating view of fire ecology. Take a walk around Summit Lake and see a completely burned forest on one side of the trail and green trees on the other side. Were glad we decided to visit this year, and well definitely be back!

This is probably the best campsite in the campground with its space, shade, and lake view. The main flaw is the proximity to paths used by day use visitors, who dont always see the paths and walk into your site, and park in your space. The camp hosts were wonderful and constantly patrolled the area to correct the day use visitors. We were lucky enough to watch a bear forage for food across the meadow one day.
