After several months of watching the reservations available and catching some last minute cancellations, our 3 family groups were able to get 3 sites very close to each other and have our annual family camp - our families from Bellingham, WA, and Redding, Woodland, and Rocklin, CA were able to have our nightly sharing of campfires, Dutch Oven cookoffs, s'mores and stories. We usually go to Bumpass Hell and King's Creek, but they were under snow and closed at the time. So we went to the Lassen Peak parking lot and threw snowballs and onto the Sulfur Works. Since our 3 year old grand-daughter was on her first camping trip, we had lots of activities at camp: making volcanoes with vinegar and baking soda, painting paper-mache unicorns, watercolor, etc. She hiked all the way around Manzanita Lake with the family. She had a blast and wants to go again! We were there during the week (not weekend), and would recommend adding the nightly Ranger talks at the Amphitheater if possible. Perhaps some other activities available at the Loomis Museum for the kids not quite ready for the Junior Ranger program. We brought her scooter which was lots of fun on the camp site roads.
