We really like the Manzanita Campground. The sites do not have any hookups, power, etc., it is dry camping, but water is available as well as flush toilet bathrooms. Showers are available near the "store" for a price. There might be fuel available, but likely only regular gas, no diesel. There is a dump station for RVs nearby. Manzanita Lake has a very nice trail that surrounds the lake, they also have rental kayaks for part of the year that are enjoyable. A nearby museum is also within a short walking distance as well as the welcome center. The campground is located at the northernmost part of the park, so to view the park activities, hikes, etc. one needs to drive to many of the sites. There is no public wifi or cell service at Manzanita. During our visit, there weren't any camp hosts or anyone seemingly responsible for checking campsites, although there was trash pickup. Manzanita Campground used to have one loop that was first come first served, but apparently now everyone must get a reservation. The reservation process online is easy enough, but once you arrive at the campground it is confusing. Every campsite had an orange reserved sign on it, but no other information, so one didn't know if the particular site was reserved for them or what and without a camp host or ranger it was more than awkward. Recently there were a large number of trees cut down in the campsite and there are a lot of bare stumps. What the reason was is anyone's guess. Lassen has a lot of interesting sites to see and it is a wonderful park. Unfortunately, a large part of the park burned in a forest fire recently, but restoration of sections seems to be underway. It is too bad there wasn't a real Ranger from the Forest Service who was there to help people.

Beautiful area. Overall a good experience and a nice campsite. Here are some areas for improvement:Too bad the camp sites arent on the side of the lake with the view of mount Lassen, but you can walk around the lake to see the view. The trail is not clearly marked at a few points. The hiking trails around the lake need many more directional signs. There was no soap in the mens room for two days. The camp host should check the soap daily. When we arrived the general store was closed so there was nowhere to buy firewood. I wish they were clear on store hours. Also, if you dont want us to bring firewood from out of the area to prevent invasive species, please do not overcharge us for firewood! $15 for a tiny amount of wood is too much.

Very good location. Site is well maintained. Staff is very friendly and ready to help in any issue. The information and on going changes are well communicated and clear. The showers are clean and working well.

great facilities, close to the lake, walking distance to a few hikes.

Nice campground - big bear boxes, clean territory, hot showers that actually work now ($1.75 per 3 minutes), clean toilets with paper and hand soap. I also like the camp store. Small cons - campsites are pretty close to each other, but that didn't bother us much. Our campsite A38 was near the restrooms that is great!

Gorgeous and informational park! Stunning lakes and scenery and well maintained campsites. Only slight negatives were Park Rangers assuming that the people that set up camp at the site next to ours in the middle of the night and then took off for a hike, was us, and waking us up at 8 in the morning to move "our" stuff, and HUGE swarms of gnats and mosquitos every dusk. Bring a mesh tent for eating in, or lots and lots of bug spray. Still worth the trip. Will return again.
