Nice remote campground - we were in a tent in early June. Restrooms were clean and convenient for us. We were on the edge of the campground and had a small bear wandering around the outside one afternoon - no issues with the bear in campground that I know of. They have bear boxes to keep your gear and coolers in. Butte Lake was nice and trails were nice. Generally quiet campground - had a group of oy Scouts that were in a different area - a bit noisy during the day but they seemed to be having fun and did not bother us. Trail to Cinder Cone leaves from right by the lake.

This was our 3rd trip to Butte Lake, previous trip was just before the Dixie fire. We were happy to see that fire damage was spotty. Still lots of beauty. We found the burned wood to be beautiful and interesting in its own way! We needed to bring our water and use vault toilets--well-maintained, no problem (regular restrooms to re-open soon). We love the hiking in this area--around the lake, cinder cone, nearby lakes, etc. Lots of hiking accessed from the camping area. Highly recommended

Butte Lake Campground is the best place to camp in Lassen. We had a reservation, but the ground was too sloped for our travel trailer. But the camp host told us to just go choose any non reservable site we'd like. There was plenty of open sites, and we got a great spot with lots of privacy. We checked out all the other campgrounds in Lassen while we were there, and all were tight on space and crowded. Butte Lake has lots of room to move around and wasn't crowded at all when we were there in late July. Butte Lake itself was beautiful and fun to kayak. The Cinder Cone hike begins at the campground. Once to the cone, it was difficult hiking up, but an awesome experience overall and well worth the effort. Amazing views from the top. Lassen is a huge N.P., and it's a long way from east to west to south. We spent one full day on the west side of the park where there is good hiking and many great sites to see. We only had three days, and it wasn't enough, so we'll be returning. And when we do, we'll definitely be camping at Butte Lake.
