We had reservations for two nights starting 9/11/24. We knew the water had been shut off and were prepared for it. What we were not expecting was the total lack of privacy. You could see every campsite in the whole place. Perhaps due to the recent fire there were no bushes or smaller trees providing privacy or wind breaks. It was very windy when we arrived. The campfire ring was very low to the ground and that combined with the wind did not make having a fire a safe proposition. Due to the lack of privacy and no shelter from wind, we decided to leave and go somewhere else. Losing the camping fees was not cost prohibitive but the forfeiting the $30/ vehicle (2 in our party) that we paid just to drive up the dirt road was a bummer. The lake was beautiful though.

The campsite is well maintained. Just next to Cinder Cone trailhead. Road to the campsite is not paved.

Great location. Remote, quiet, set in the forest. On the same site as Butte Lake and the Cinder Cone trailhead. John was a great host.

Beautiful area. Hiking was lovely although a few days were very hot. Staff in the park were considerate and helpful.

Very nice area, large. Near nice lake but this is a remote site for the peak. There was a deer that came through nightly, very calm, obviously used to humans. The area is warmer than the higher camping sites so in the Summer, you will be comparatively warmer at this area. A long dirt road, not bad except for a few areas, to get to the camping site, out of the park. As you drive back to the park ,you do get a chance to see Lassen from a stop area and it's excellent, with the valley below and Lassen and Shasta flanking it.
