I was having a family trip and reserved 5 sites next to each other. I was emailed twice a reminder and my wife called the week of the trip to confirm everything was good to go, she was told everything is good to go. With no warning the 6 mile road leading into the campgrounds is all washboard. After that I pull up to my sites and 2 of 5 are closed and moved down a ways. No call, text or email about that. We were there for 4 days. After the first day, we abandon the 3 sites at the top of the hill and moved everyone on to the 2 sites. No one we could call. No camp host. Its a shame the management of this campground is so bad. Because its a pretty place. Not sure if its incompetence or indifference because if you moved 2 sites and my name is on 5, that person should have moved all 5. At bare minimum, call or text or email me to tell me what is happening. Never coming back here.

Less crowded and more quiet than Manzanita Lake, due to the lack of showers, store, visitor center, and long gravel access road, so if you want the road less travelled, this is the place. Trees are somewhat sparse but there remains adequate shade most of the day. Lake is beautiful and clean even though low from drought. I was told there would be no water but there was piped water and flush toilets which was very nice. Not much Dixie Fire evidence within the camp itself, as the rocky lava fields to the south of Butte Lake kept the fire from burning too hot thru the camp.
