The nearly seven mile dirt road is accessible by most cars. There are smooth parts and washboard conditions in other parts. The problem is that some drivers treat it like an off-raod race track and that creates a lot of dust and projectile gravel. There needs to be a sign that states "Drive Slowy to Prevent Heavy Dust and Flying Rocks" once you get to the campground. Other than that, the campground is adjacent to hiking and biking trails and down the road there are forest roads for motorcycles, ATVs, and even regular sedans. The cold lake water is tolerable for some swimming. The hiking trails offer some great views of snow covered Lassen Peak and other volcano domes. It is worth the drive on the log dirt road.
