We had site 144 reserved but were lucky enough to change to another site when we saw the setup of 144 situated so close to 143. I wanted to leave a review to let people know that the tent pad for 144 is right next to the fire ring of site 143. I dont want to give it too low of a rating because some people loved this site before us and probably will after. Everyone likes and dislikes things differently. I would recommend booking both sites together or making friends with your neighbors. It just wasnt for us for the night we were there. We wanted a bit more space between our site and our neighbor.

Site 144 was fantastic. The best part is the river noise that is constant. There is also a really beautiful view of the river. There is a good amount of space on the site. The only thing I would mention is that it is a decent walk to the sink where you wash dishes & the restrooms. Also, the afternoon sun is direct. I wish we brought an easy up for that time of day. The restrooms were better than last summer, but after last summer, I brought my own toilet and it was a nice addition. There were long-tailed weasels under a tree near the site & we saw a deer. It was a very enjoyable trip:)

Although we love camping at Lodgepole, our favorite sites, 143 & 144, were negatively impacted by several felled trees at the edge of the site that inhibited the river view, which we enjoyed so much in the past. Also, the bathrooms could use a few hooks so people don't have to put their toiletries on the floor. In addition, on our last night, we visited the Lodgepole store to get last minute souvenirs. The cafe was closed, and the staff member cleaning it was blasting music very loudly. Another staff member in the store was blasting their own music. The cacophony was extremely uncomfortable for us, so we didn't stay very long, and quickly bought only a few items. Finally, kudos to the shuttle system. We had a wonderful walk down the Sherman Tree trail, then around the Congress Trail, but we very happy to take the shuttle bus back the the Sherman Tree parking lot. However, we wish an abbreviated shuttle would run longer. Closing after Labor Day is too soon. The weather is great until late into October, so it would be nice to utilize the shuttle during the Fall as well.

The campsite is beautiful and clean. The temperature in July ranges from 40 - 75 degrees on average. It gets pretty chilly at night so bring some quality sleeping bags. Definitely recommend hiking along the river, as it leads to a waterfall and the path there is beautiful. Bathrooms are clean as well and have toilet paper provided.

Spectacular river view from this campsite with no easy river access, which was ideal as we were camping with toddlers and water levels are very high. The rushing water drowns out the sound of other campers. Sites 144 and 143 are very close together, but are a good distance from any others. We reserved both sites for our big family trip, and it was perfect. It's about a 3 min. walk to the restrooms. Because of the heavy winter storms, there are many downed trees and branches in the upper loop, and some snow banks left along the hillside. No need to buy firewood! Lodgepole Market, showers, and Visitor Center are closed. We were very surprised to find that we all had cell reception! We absolutely loved our trip and highly recommend exploring the Big Stump Trail on your way in from Hwy. 180, hiking the Tokopah Falls Trail, and using the shuttle to visit the Big Trees Trail and Moro Rock.
