Recommend this campground because of location, and amenities. The bathrooms at the visitor center are clean, the bathrooms at the campsite were some of the worst I have experienced and my expectations are very low. The visitor center also has showers and laundry. Our campsite was nice and please be bear aware. A fed bear is a dead bear.

Good campsite, but be prepared that the fire rings are very short. Also there is not a dish washing station, but you need to make sure to dump all dish washing water in the bathroom. I would bring a separate bucket to catch food related water. Near showers and store which is very convenient.

Campground under good maintenance and a nice host who gives attention to the small details. The environment around hough isn't very attempting. Most of the forest is burnt.

I stayed @ Lodgepole Campground on September 14, 2019 to begin my trek on the High Sierra Trail. Reservation process = excellent. The recreation.gov site was easy to navigate and securely transact. Lodgepole facilities: excellent. Even "late" in the season (mid-Sept) the store was well-stocked. The restaurant was affordably priced and delicious. Lodgepole staff: excellent! The general store and restaurant staff were very friendly. Especially noteworthy was that, after discovering that I was missing a USB charging cable and none were available in stock (USB-C), a staff member gave me her own. NPS backcountry desk: excellent. Ranger Wilson questioned me appropriately about my permit, policies and LNT. Talk with a Ranger: fun! Ranger Zoe presented and the topic that night were insects and it was pretty fascinating. Campsite: good. It's a crowded area and was noisy right until about 10PM, but easy access to food locker, fire ring and picnic table. Shuttle: disappointed!!! The Sequoia Shuttle only runs through the week of Labor Day and this also includes in-park transit! I didn't know about this until AFTER trying to book reservations on the day they became available online. **This policy needs to be better publicized*** I was extremely fortunate to have a hiking acquaintance take me to the park from Fresno and then find a ride the next morning to the HST trailhead at Crescent Meadow (which saved six miles of extra, unplanned hiking). I also hope Sequoia Shuttle will consider extending their service through September, as the weather was very mild. Overall: Grade B, but would likely be higher if the shuttle situation were improved.
