It is nicely located, close to market. Good for family campers.
Just be careful with wasps in summer. They have a nest in rotten logs.

We stayed in site #6 a couple of weeks ago, and we loved the Lodgepole Campground overall despite some minor things about our particular site. The site itself is spacious, but very little to no shade for most of the day until the late afternoon. We appreciated the availability of the fire pit, but the grill on top of the pit was bent out of shape and essentially useless if you wanted to place cookware on top of it. The bathrooms are close by; and while not in the best condition, seemed a lot cleaner than the bathrooms next to the market and even the bathrooms at the loop with sites #151-214. Since site #6 is next to the main road, you may be bothered by the sounds of cars in the early mornings and late evenings. There are bears and deer who walk through the campground, so be prepared to secure your food and scented items in the provided bear lockers (one per site, but there are extras around).

The site is a walkable distance to the Lodgepole Market which gets very busy on weekends. Next to the market there are showers, laundry, and a Visitor Center but all of these were closed for the season. Take a short walk or drive up from this site and you can access the Tokopah Falls trailhead and see the Kaweah River. The more popular attractions like General Sherman Tree, Tunnel Log, Moro Rock, and Giant Forest Museum (also closed at the time) are also accessible by car (about 30 min drive or less). There are shuttles which stop at Lodgepole and other points of the park but we didn't use the shuttles. Wuksachi Lodge is an even closer drive (about 10 min away), so you can stop by to eat at their cafe (which had a limited menu at the time).

All of the park staff, especially the rangers, were extremely knowledgeable and friendly. We even attended a ranger program at the outdoor amphitheater and it was great to see so many fellow campers attend. This place is a true treasure and offers access to a good "sampling" of all that is beautiful about this park. Would love to go back!
