All bathrooms were incredibly filthy. Seems no one cleans them. Campsites vary widely: some are breathtaking others are barren and dismal. Site occupancy of 6 persons is often ignored. The site that backed up to mine was filled with literally 18 noisy people. Really affected my experience.

My family and I had a lovely time at Lodgepole campground. Site 091 and 092 were perfect. They were in upper lodge which was perfect since they were close enough to the bathrooms but far enough away from the main road of traffic. The sites had a combination of shade and sun throughout the day but only because we had both sites so we could move to the shade or sun areas. We were butted up against the hillside so we were gifted with several wild life. Half our trip we we enjoyed watching a deer doe visit the hillside around sunrise and sunset. Once a deer buck came into our campsite to investigate! We also got to see a marmot running around along the hillside. The river was high and rushing so all day and night you were serenaded by the sounds of rushing water. Our only downside was they were doing prescribed fires so most days there was layer of smoke all around and you could smell it. Although these are very necessary for the forest, it did put a little bit of a damper on us and our breathing. Luckily the wind was pushing it the opposite side of us so it was not anything nearly as bad as the Kings Canyon side. Other than that is was a wonderful trip.
