Lodgepole was a giant campground, with helpful checkin at the kiosk, and a diligent group of rangers/hosts to make sure things are well. Id try to camp near the river again, for sure. We used the walk in sight so not for those w mobility issues- btw.

I reserved campsite 169, and when I got there, all I saw was parking space 169 and nothing else. I tried to use the bear box right next to the parking space but when I look it said 168, I didn't find my campsite(I assume it was mine because it was right next to 170 which is also down by the creek, however the bear box had no indications) till the next morning when I noticed there were additional campsites down the slope near a creek. The couple on 168 was nice enough to let me use their bear box since they had a camper. There should be indications of some sort directing people to their campsites, where it is not obvious or next to the parking.

The walk to and from the car was quite difficult and there was no shade at our specific camp spot, but otherwise it was a lovely experience!

We had a large group and booked sites 170 and 169. We had lots of room (6 total tents in ranges of 3 to 10 person tents). We felt truly separated from the rest of the cramped sites. You are close to the river, and we even had some deer walk up to the site as we were leaving.Cons: There is a rocky walk down from the parking to the campsite, and it favors one campsite over the other. Most of the campfire grills are bolted to the ground and are almost unusable other than propping up another grate. One grate looked like a boulder or tree had fallen on it. There are also a lot of ant colonies amongst the best tent spots. You just have to make sure your tent is zipped up at all times. There isn't a real delineation between the two sites. Would gladly book the sites again for a large group.
