This was simply one of the cleanest COE campgrounds at which we have stayed. It was was well kept, clean, sites were largely level. This was one of the first ones where our campsite had clearly been cleaned before we got there - there were no cigarette butts laying around. The fire pits had been cleaned out, but any wood left in them was still there for the next person. Our site had a couple of anomalies, such as our lantern hook was in a weird place and the fire ring had been moved to another site, the latter being an easy fix. The picnic tables were in good shape and sturdy.
The porta-potties were kept spotless by staff and they were not allowed to get over full. Do I wish they had flush toilets and shower houses, yes - but I did know what I was getting in to. I think there may be some in the future.
Staff and rangers were very visible, and the sheriffs department drove through once or twice an evening. Staff and rangers were not only proactive, but very responsive; and they clearly have a water safety program in place.
Even though we stayed over a holiday weekend - Memorial Day, no one seemed to get out of line, quiet hours were observed. Lots of people stayed up at their campsites, but there wasn’t any loud music or generators running late into the night or early in the morning. Two early, early mornings of the weekend (between 2 and 4 am) we did have fireworks and gun shots going off, but they were from the state park campground across the way. But the rangers and the SO resolved it by the third morning.
As it was a last minute reservation, we felt lucky to even get a place, and weren’t sure quite what to expect. But this place is just a jewel.
