The campground is beautiful and immaculate. Theres a view from every camping spot of the lake. The showers and bathrooms were clean and I like that theres a heater in there when you need it.

Love this campground. Lots of campsites are close to the water and you can fish from the bank. Extra bonus is a cover over most of the picnic tables. Very quiet and peaceful campground. Well be back!!

Campground was clean. The sites were level and paved. Great view of lake. Sites were also spaced out so it didnt feel like you had a neighbor. One of the nicest campgrounds weve stayed in.

We enjoyed our stay at Canning Creek as much as the weather would allow. On the night of our arrival we experienced severe thunderstorms, ominous skies and tornado warnings. It was a tense and sleepless night wondering if we would need to seek shelter. The next few days were clear skies, but heavy winds, so we were able to get out and do some exploring, but fishing and bike riding were our due to the high winds. But hey! it is Kansas after all and we still had fun camping with family and friends even though the weather tried to put a damper on our time together. We found the campground itself to be well maintained and the modern restrooms with showers were clean and well stocked during our entire visit. Our campsite, #32, was level and included a level concrete pad for our 25' camper, water hookup, 30 & 50 amp electric hookups, fire pit, picnic table and a covered shelter over the picnic table. Verizon and AT&T cell service was adequate to allow me to work and conduct some WebEx and MS Teams video meetings. OOKLA Speedtest documented 29 Mbps download speeds for Verizon and blistering 110 Mbps download speeds for AT&T. All things considered, we thought the campground was nicely maintained and offered beautiful views of the reservoir along with easy access to the nearby historic town of Council Grove. We will definitely visit again when we are in the area.

The leash law is not enforced and my dog was attacked by 2 large dogs not on a leash our 2nd night. My dog was at an unfortunate disadvantage as he was on his leash and could not protect himself. It has been 14 days and my dog is still having difficulty walking, using steps, and lifting his leg to go to the restroom. One dog appeared to be half Pitbull and he almost killed my dog. The owner of the dog did not even come to help pull the dogs off my dog. Women and children were trying to make the dogs stop but they were very scared of the half Pitbull themselves. The other dog, one of the young boys managed to lay on top of that dog to keep it from attacking my dog again. I was so scared if my son and I was going to get attacked too.
Our first night our dog was approached by a different large dog but the owner was able to call the dog away after the dog came up to our dog.

There was another large dog the entire stay that was 4 campsites up from our campsite that was never on a leash too. Fortunately the dog was called back by the owner several times.

The firepit is in a very bad location and is located on the backside of our camper. It felt like you were with the other campers so we did not use it. There were several campsites in choice locations blocked for non use. Repairs need to be made if it is the reason for blocking them.

The park personnel were very concerned about the attack and had me call 911. Police/Sherriff came out quickly. The park ranger came out the next day to get our story and said he was going to write up a citation to the pet owner for not having his 2 dogs on leashes.

There should be large signs put up at he entrance gate that say dogs not on a leash will be fined no exceptions. There needs to be made leash checks several times a day. Have a dog with them on the checks as the unleashed dogs come out of the woodwork to approach a dog on a leash.

This is a great little gem of a lake and area for just flat out relaxing. It always depends on who your camping neighbors are but we have not had a bad experience here at Council Grove Lake.

Nature trail to buffalo wallows was cool. Also-the folks at the marina are awesome. Highly recommend checking out their rentals. Great sites. Only issue was many firepits are awkwardly located and grass not trimmed around the pits.
