Loved this campground, and will definitely be back. We stayed at Campsite 41 and didnt have any issues with day use climbers in our space, like others have mentioned in their reviews, though we stayed Sunday-Tuesday. However, my kids kept finding beer bottle caps at our site, and I found a few pieces of broken glass, which was a bummer. Bathroom right across from site was clean.

Everything was perfect. The toilet were very clean considering. No cell teception or water refilling station that I could see close by.

This campground was awesome! Every site seemed to be great, surrounded by big rocks. Bathrooms were well maintained. Even though it has 100+ sites, its broken up nicely so it doesnt seem crowded.

Always clean and well kept - beautiful campground. The Ranger actually called me in person to let us know there would be some heavy winds ahead, which I thought was very helpful.

Very nice site nestled in the rocks but almost every time I left for a while and returned there were climbers in my site using my table for their gear and not very inclined to leave. Quite rude, actually. Otherwise. it was a great stay.

We booked site #41 because it looked like a great site with a lot of privacy. It was exactly that until returned from a great day hiking and found day use users in our site rock climbing. When we asked them about being in our site a woman in the climbing group became belligerent toward us. We were very unnerved by the experience and later asked the camp host if this was allowed. We were told yes, rock climbers are allowed to walk through and use the campsites (reserved and paid for by others) to rock climb but are supposed to ask permission. During our stay there we saw multiple singular and groups of day use rock climbers walking through and using sites 40-44. FYI, be prepared to share your site with strangers.

We loved our site, 041, as the rocks offered privacy but was still close to the bathroom. The campground itself is beautiful and in the winter largely unoccupied. However a few things really put a damper on our experience: 1) the trash truck showed up at 6 am to empty all the dumpsters. We had terrible wind sitch the night before and barely had any sleep so the early morning banging was very unpleasant. 2) Rock climbers. We had just returned from the natl park and were getting settled when 2 rock climbers decided that they needed to climb the rock face adjacent to our site in spite of our dogs getting agitated and barking at them. Mind you this was not even their campsite, they appeared to either be day use folks or folks camping in an entirely different site. So even though we were paid campers we decided to leave a day early instead of have our dogs disturb the solitude of camp. There were plenty of rock faces to summit where no one was camping so that was pretty rude IMO.

site 41 is not great for a camper van. It would be better for tents. The climbers use the rock right next to the parking for this site ... so if you are sleeping in your car (or just don't want climbers falling against your car!) this is not a great site. It is also across a narrow road from the pit toilet so there is traffic and noise (although no smell at this time) associated with that.

Great campsite with early morning sun. Unfortunately, rock climbers we're in my site when I arrived and didn't leave till after dark. They were back in the morning wanting to climb the rocks behind the site... perhaps Park Service staff could direct them to other places that don't infringe on campers.

Great campsite. Well maintained. Excellent privacy. I would go back in a heartbeat. The only small downside for me: it is a 15-20 minute drive through the city and a few small neighborhoods to get to the park entrance. If you want to be completely off the grid and immersed in the park the whole time, check out one of the other campgrounds. But if you dont mind the to and from drive through town to get to the rest of the park every day, this is a great campsite.

Awesome campground. Easy access to the 29 palms gate which I found less crowded and plenty to hike and explore in the area. Quick access to stores as well.

Great campground! The pit toilets are cleaned regularly and our campsite was well maintained. We are climbers and loved climbing right out of our camp. Also liked that the park service gave informative presentations on two of the nights we were there.

We rented a spot and when we got there someone was in our spot and we couldnt figure out who it was so we ended up having to stay somewhere else. Definitely a frustrating experience.

I have always enjoyed how this campground offers everything I look for camping in Joshua Tree but without the crowds. Like all the other campgrounds you will find you will find beautiful skies and stately boulders. The roads and campsites are not well developed so you have to be aware of that. The roads are maintained just not developed. I guess that adds charm to the experience. Some campsites will flood during a heavy storm, others are on less than flat sites. I was camping this time with a tent which make site selection easier. If you have an RV the number of sites is greatly reduced. Honestly, even though it is just a basic barebones campground, it is still a place that holds a lot of beauty and adventure. I will keep coming back to the campground to experience what Joshua Tree has to offer.

The campground was very easily accessible from the main road. Site 41 is an excellent spot for 1-2 tents and nicely nestled among the rocks. There aren’t too many trails directly off this campground but awesome hikes are a short drive away!
I thought campsite 42 was a ripoff - no space for tents. Luckily we booked 41 as well which was AMAZING. Would go back for sure. Loved the experience.

If there are speed tests submitted for a campground the campsite icons will be colored based on the average download speed and the border will be colored based on the average upload speed.
In this example Campsite #123 has very good download speeds and decent upload speeds. If a campsite has a solid yellow color it means there was no data speed detected in the test(s). Clicking on a campsite icon reveals more details.
