I had a very nice camping experience at Cottonwood Campground. I attended the evening ranger-led discussion in the amphitheatre, and admired the stars. There is a water spigot with potable water, which may not be obvious in the campground description. I wanted to hike the trail from "B" loop to the Palm Oasis, but I wasn't sure about the length or terrain. I think that needed more information. The visitor's center is conveniently located near the campground and the volunteer staff member was super-helpful!

Angelinos don't seem to know much about camping. Last time I stayed at this campground someone poached my site saying his "just wouldn't work for him". This time a woman at a neighboring campsite who was camping in her sprinter van had equipment that she left during the day stolen by other campers who "didn't know if she was coming back and just left them". The rangers and park staff are overwhelmed and overworked and can not (and should not have to) police the campground. So come on campers; show some respect and be adults.

No internet / phone service available ( yeah!). The wind can be intense ( bring ear plugs). Bathrooms are very clean.

Campsites were spacious and fairly secluded (considering it's a desert). Plenty of spots to setup a tent.

The campground was a good base camp for exploring the rest of the park by car. My friend and I tent-camped, and were maybe one of two tent-campers in the entire campground. The rest were RV's or camper vans. It was nice having flush toilets and potable water available in this campground. The bathrooms were very clean and well-stocked for our stay.

Except for many shrill 10 year olds on a Saturday night, a fine three night stay. (They quieted down on the road by 830 or so.) My campsite had a semi secluded spot for the tent. The outhouse was clean. The water spigot is a welcome upgrade by comparison to the campgrounds in the center of the park. The nature trail that goes to the main parking lot is handy, and well done. Theres a road/trail leading off from the B loop that could also make a car free hiking day.

Nice campground. It felt smallish. I really like that there was 'no service' on my phone. Nice trails off to the east. Most people took their cars and headed deeper into Joshua Tree during the day. Having been to Joshua Tree many times, I stayed put and explored locally.

The area is beautiful, we could look out into the wilderness from our window, we didnt have any problems with our reservation and the bathrooms were clean. Our only small complaint is there werent as many spigots around as we would have liked.

RV spaces are small with limited space for slide-outs. Spaces are close together without much privacy except the road which is traveled immediately adjacent to your RV. I would not recommend Cottonwood Campground. There are good hikes nearby, but the vast majority of the park is 30 miles away so be prepared to drive a lot. It would be better to stay on the north side of the park if you could. Another reason not to stay here.

Parking was very tight and we only have a 25 foot motorhome. Plus there were no Joshua tress, which we can specifically to see. We only stayed one of our two nights and moved on to the north side of the park to enjoy the trees for the day.

Bring your water, no hookups, nice dump station.
We come here for the warm weather. Upper sites are the best I think.
Avoid weekends, fairly close to the city. Our second night we had late arrivals that proceeded to be pretty loud till about 1am. But generally, this is a quiet nice campground.
Overall a great stop.

There are no hookups at Cottonwood, but the setting was "quintessentially desert". Our early November trip was quiet with warm days and cool nights. it was private enough because rigs are parked along the road. The night sky was lovely.

We hiked the small loop of the Cottonwood Springs trail, and thoroughly enjoyed the rocky outcroppings, lookouts to the Salton Sea and the old mine.

We had an excellent time at cottonwood campgrounds. The bathrooms were clean, the individual campsites were spread out perfectly, and the scenery was beautiful! The only thing I’d recommend is bringing an easy-up because there is no shade anywhere! But all in all, we are definitely coming back here!

Honestly we settled on this campground because it was the only one with an open spot that I could reserve. as a National Park we knew it would be a fine campground and it was as expected. It isn't the quintessential Joshua Tree campground since there are no Joshua Trees on this side of the park and the large rock formations are not part of the campground itself. That being said I promised my wife we could camp somewhere with running water for a change. Bathrooms were clean, rangers were nice and helpful. Would have loved a 11pm site check by the rangers to quiet up a couple groups but it wasn't excessive noise, just not the quiet of the desert. Sites are close together but not excessively so. Make sure to check the description of the site and what works at that particular location. We were on the B loop in the back and if you had an RV with anything other than a passenger side pop out it wouldn't have worked for you. The site description details that info. We had a 4 person tent and could have set up 3 more without a problem. The main park attractions are 30 minutes up the road, but the two hikes next to campground are worth doing, especially if this isn't your first trip to the park. I would stay here again if I couldn't get into one of the other campgrounds. Book way early if you want a weekend. I like how easy Recreation.gov is to use and find spots.
