Camp site was nice, good size with a relatively flat open area for the tent, and near the bathroom. But some drawbacks of the rules not being enforced, as there were generators that would run most of the night, and halfway through our stay an adjacent campsite over-flowed into our site dominating the space with 2 tents and a large pop-up canopy. Literally their tents were right next to ours.

Make sure you take enough water if you got to the Lost Palms Oasis. Long hike up and down

Well, this campground is a bit of a drive to the major sites and Joshua tree. Its great for stargazing and very quiet and peaceful. The bathrooms are incredibly clean and has an abundance of freshwater available. I would stay here again.

The good: Clean bathrooms with flush toilets and no smell. #10 has a water spigot located on the site (other sites don't have this), making it very convenient. Easily fits a large tentThe bad: Like other reviewers said, it seems that #10 and #8 were originally one site that was divided into two. They overlap a lot. For example, the fire rings are within ~20 feet of each other. You can hear your neighbors talking even at a quiet volume

We were too close to the other campground behind us. I was in the tent and I could hear them having a conversation while making their food. They werent being loud, we were just too close to each other. The level of the site was flat and comfortable to sleep on. I would recommend booking a different site if you want privacy.

Lovely setting amidst the greenest part of the park. Toilets were clean and close-by and there was enough space for car and camper.

This is the best campground inside Joshua tree NP.It's conveniently tucked away from all the busy attractions on the upper side of the park.Bunch of flowers, bees, hummingbirds and even coyotes howling at night.Loved it .

Rest rooms are well maintained, drinking water facilitated for RVs also, garbage collection was also getting done promptly. Decent site space for small group with fire pit. We brought our own logs and used it. Beautiful location for star gazing, moon gazing. Trails mine with enough guidelines for hiking and trekking. No cellphone signals, away from highway.. well prepared with camping kits given a wonderful experience of time away and quiteness.

Sites are very close together, even fire pits are close together. This is not a campground for RVs with slide outs, as you will be halfway in the road!

Great spot. Pretty noisy until about 3am and doesn't seem to be a camp host to enforce the rules. All good though, you don't go camping for a good night's sleep :) Great bathrooms and amazing park of course. Would definitely return

It was awesome experience camping at Cottonwood Campground. We reached around evening and set up our two tents. Campsite was beautiful and peaceful. Mastodon hike is almost next to this campground. We took that hike after tents were set up. It took us about 2 hours to hike. After hike, we did dinner and campfire. Bathrooms were clean. There was no shower as we already knew at this site. We would camp there again!

Beautiful spot. Some nice hikes in the area. Its a distance to the majority of the park sites. Its in the Sonoran Desert section of the park near the south entrance. Campground is pretty basic. Most of the sites are sloped. Hard to park a large RV and difficult to level an RV.

This camp ground was wonderful. Great off-trail hiking right next to the camp site with spectacular views with a little bit of climbing. The camp sites are pretty close together, but it was not uncomfortably close. Just alarming when a bunch of groups show up after 11 pm when you thought you had a nice large area to yourself. The stars are beautiful, the bathroom was spotless. You won’t regret camping here.

I would 10/10 recommend camping at Cottonwood. It was really pleasant and has a BEAUTIFUL view of the mountains. The sunset was stunning and the stars were amazing. We stayed at Ryan the other 2 nights we camped, and that was great as well, but I preferred camping in Cottonwood. The only thing I will say is the sights are very close together since they are in a loop. Not ideal for campers, but perfect for car/tent camping.

Campsites are terrible. Our campsite was shared with the campsite next to us. Our firepit was closer to the other campsites picnic table than ours. We didn’t stay and left early as we didn’t like sharing a campsite with 4 obnoxious college students that were loud and disrespectful. No privacy at all.

Nice, quiet campground. Pretty close to neighboring tents compared to other NPS campgrouds we hit on our trip. No lights in the bathroom is a minor annoyance. Overall enjoyed the experience and will return.
