Wonderful campsite with great trails nearby. Not as crowded as the campgrounds in the northern part of the park. A bit of a drive to get to other areas, but overall beautiful and would definitely stay again.

Quaint, great location! The spaces were nicely spaced out and only small RVs are allowed so it was a great spot to tent camp. This location is opposite the other attractions so be sure to check the map and plan accordingly but we loved it. Be sure to stop by the ranger station if you have children, so they can complete their JR Ranger booklet.

Great campground with desert scenery and clean flush bathrooms.

Pulled in late to see the Perseid Meteor Shower to avoid the heat and couldn't complain. Spacious from other campers, very dark and perfect for stargazing.

Campsite looks nice, the toilets were clean and worked well. Beautiful sunset views! A bit away from most of the attractions of the park, but I think it made the campsite more quiet, which was nice.

The campsite is ideal for large RVs, as it is quite open/exposed and does not provide much separation or privacy for tent or van campers.

Cottonwood has more amenities than some other Joshua campgrounds, including a dump and camper water refill station and bathrooms with sinks, mirrors, flush toilets. whereas other campground are pit toilets and no water. It's located near Cottonwood Springs which is an interesting hike. surrounding the campground is good walking terrain in the desert to see vegetation, animal holes, birds. If you don't mind camping near other people and noise like generators, it's fine. Otherwise I recommend making Joshua Tree a day trip, north to south, and taking advantage of dispersed camping elsewhere like Anza Borrego.

Beautiful campground, one of the best sunsets I have ever seen. 20 min away from a gas station and some other food places

Beautiful campground, sites spacious but parking areas very narrow. Our site (29A) had several large boulders and was on a little slope that made it tricky, but worth it. The bathrooms were clean and there were plenty so everyone is close to one. Note, no electric outlets in the bathrooms but they had flush toilets and running water. There are a lot of tent campers in this campground, but I didnt see a dishwashing station. Overall, this is a very nice campground on the quiet end of the park.Although there were some larger rigs, this campground is better suited for camper vans, class Bs and very small trailers. Just outside this park entrance was a large BLM area for free camping.

The campground is isolated on the southern part of Joshua Tree NP with scenic views. Unfortunately strong winds greeted me upon arrival which persisted overnight so I was confined to stay in my RV. This was part of the thrill of camping in the wilderness and anticipated. However an unanticipated occurrence was developing a serious case of diarrhea the day after filling the water tank on my RV at the campground dump station. This was most probably due to the "potable" water which was close to the dump sewer. The park service should monitor the quality of the water at this station if not doing so.

Clean bathrooms. Great space for camping. Just the site was over run with Trailers and campers aka loud families that got drunk all night and went into their nice warm trailers while us normal people froze all night.

There was no check-in, i.e. I had to remember which site I booked which was not easy as there is no cell reception. Our parking spot was quite angled.

It was really hot and we weren’t aware of the fire restrictions until we got there, so we didn’t get to enjoy our trip since we had no gas stove top

the spot that I camped on was AMAZING! Beautiful weather low 90's during the day 60's at night time. Perfect clear night for stargazing. Also, my camping spot was right by the Lost Oasis Trailhead. It was a hella bonus. would definitely come back to this campground whenever it is available.
the only downfall was the bathroom. For the men's restroom, there was only one toilet and one urinal and there are over 20 campsites.
There is running water at this site though!

Great star gazing very beautiful part of the Sonoran desert and you will be sharing the night with the coyotes. Spots are very small, the restrooms were clean and free dump were much appreciated.

Major Issues
@JoseD779 · Camped on Feb 21, 2021 at Campsite #A29
Overall the campground was OK but the spaces were super tight for a 32' RV and a car (we didn't put out our slide) and navigating to your spot can be a challenge with cars and RVs sticking out. Generator hours were posted but were not enforced and generators regularly came on at 6:00 AM and ran until 10:00 or 11:00 PM

The campground did have a nice relaxed vibe and is close to Cottonwood springs and Mastodon Peak areas.

The Tent and RV slots are combined. The access road is too small. We camped during the Thanksgiving week so it was full house. It was so crowded and you can overhear people talking easily. We camped next to a big RV with a party of 10 people (in my estimation). We had to sleep with earplugs on. Also, the toilet was old and dirty. Not sure where our taxes go.

The campground was great. It was clean, well maintained, and quiet on Thursday night. Friday night was a different story. Several campsites around us far exceeded the 6 person maximum, with the site right across from us being peppered with tents and having at least 10 people. They were loud, and allowed their children and dogs to bark, cry and whine. We will most assuredly be back, but it will be during the colder months and it will not be on a weekend. You should definitely consider staying here, if just for the night sky. It was absolutely amazing.

Very quiet campground. Restrooms were excellently maintained. Close to a visitors center with knowledgeable park rangers.
