Since we camped in the off-season (August) we basically had the campground to ourselves!Very quiet, clean bathrooms, great night skies - perfect. We also had a pack of coyotes howling fairly close by - that was great to experience.

This was our first ever camping trip and this location was also great to see the shooting stars. There were plenty of camping sites that were spaced apart well for privacy but close if you are camping with friends and family. The restrooms were clean but the only thing that was missing in the womens rest room was soap. I liked how close the restrooms are to each site. It definitely helps when you have to go in the middle of the night in the dark. This is a nice location even if youre passing through on the interstate for a nights rest or if you plan to visit the park the next day. The campsites are clearly marked, there are picnic tables at each site and a designated parking spot or two for each site. It was a great first experience and I would visit again.

Cottonwood is perfect for night sky viewing (our favorite of our cross country trip!) and is conveniently close to Cottonwood Spring and one of the visitor centers. Unfortunately the bees are unbelievable, even in early October. The palm trees seem to be their hives and they start buzzing past you as you begin to hike the trail that cuts past the spring- keeping us from hiking the trail more than a few hundred feet. They werent too bad at the campground, but they do bother you in the restrooms and are all over the RV dump station and kept us from using that as well. Over all it was a great campground for one night, but I wouldnt want to stay more than a few days if the dump and water arent safely usable.

Office closed when we arrived. Signs and maps available and helpful. Site was tight for 29 RV. No hookups. Bathroom was clean and close. No shower. Nice hiking trails. Cottonwood is super convenient to I-10. Then very scenic relaxing 35-mi drive thru park into 29 Palms next morning.

A little cramped since most of the sites include only pull outs for parking and small campers, but overall a nice place and I had a great stay. Start your day with a beautiful hike out to the Mastodon Mine.

Pretty good spots, gorgeous location. Not too many spots too crowded together compared to most of this style of campground. There were loud people until about midnight drinking every night I was there. I didn't mind too much even though I don't drink, and it wasn't wild loud, just not a very quiet campground, which might not be great for everyone.

Only thing is this is a corner site, we can not have slide out, because our slide out is at driver side. Over all it's good, bathroom is clean.

Great campground - well serviced and respectful campers. My only suggestion would be showers but that would be quite a luxury. Very thankful for the NPS!

This was our first adventure with our Winnebago EKKO. We reserved A15. There was plenty of room for our Ekko and a small car behind it. There were two flat areas for a tent at the sight as well. Plenty of room at this site and no one behind us. A15 is in more of a curve in the road than the diagram shows. It was not a problem. The campground was clean and well maintained. Water and a dump station are located just outside the campground. Flush toilets are also a benefit at this location opposed to others in Joshua Tree. It was very windy the last two nights we stayed there so we were glad to be in an RV. Cottonwood Campground is about 40 miles from the other side of the park where the more popular attractions are, but the drive is beautiful. We chose it because it does have a flush toilet, where most of the campgrounds don't. It is also close to one of the visitor's centers. If you need to refill your propane, the Chevron just outside the park does that. They do not sell the little green propane tanks that many grills use though. Margaret from Alabama, was a friendly campground host! Someone had an accident in the women's restroom and it was cleaned up very quickly. It was very convenient to walk right out of our campsite to hike the Lost Palms Oasis. Great eight mile hike! Worth the hike to have lunch in the shady oasis.

Had a very nice couple of nights at Cottonwood..bathrooms were very clean, your camp host was so nice and friendly! Just wish the sites were a couple of feet wider off the road, but other than that, its great!
