1) When we arrived about 6PM our reserved campsite was occupied by tent and equipment (people not there). The reservation sign on the post did not have any names. The camp host was not at the campground. Fortunately we were able to find a vacant site (with a blank reservation sign). No one showed up later to claim the site.
2) There were no envelopes for payment.
3) There were bushes with thorns intruding into the camping area, including under the picnic table.
Definitely substandard compared to similar Forest Service sites in the area (Four Jeffery, Shady Rest, June Lake).

On the positive side, the scenery is great and the toilets were clean.

Jodie and Johnny are great camp hosts. They are friendly and helpful and keep the camp ground ship shape!

This was our first & second visit to McGee Creek this past summer/fall and we throughly enjoyed the campground. It was meticulously clean and the campground hosts, Cheryl and her husband were a joy. We will definitely be staying here again. The campground is below McGee Creek Canyon which has spectacular views especially in the spring when the wildflowers are blooming and in the fall when the aspen trees are turning. Lots of hiking & fishing within an easy drive from the campground. Mammoth is only about 1/2 hour north.
