admittedly my expectations were not high - I had in mind a campground near the highway in the blazing heat. the reality is that there are plenty of tree - lots of trees! - and it is fairly quiet with the space between sites reasonable. very big campground. nice bathrooms.

Recreation.gov does not provide accurate or good pictures of the campground and individual sites. The campsite I chose did not show in the picture that the campsite next to you had a picnic table and firepit very close to this site. The sites were too close to each other. The people in a site next to mine were so loud and playing music and ruined the camping experience. It could be a very nice campground but if you get a bad camping etiquette neighbor it ruins the whole experience. Also, Recreation.gov does not give any refunds on campsites that are often booked 6 months in advance, and therefore people don't cancel their campsite rez and there are many empty campsites that could've been reserved by other people. If the state of California park system can issue full or partial refunds and rebook the sites quickly, so can the federal government. It's plain laziness and disregard to the camping experience.
