Beautiful location. Enough bathrooms and clean water. Having the Whitney Portal store on site was a nice convenience. Note that the campsite is right next to a rushing stream and some small waterfalls, which may disturb light sleepers.

The campground was kept in excellent condition, with the cleanest vault toilets I have ever visited! The camp host was congenial and helpful. The Whitney Portal Store and 'Restaurant' was a quick one mile up the road, which was very convenient. I would definitely stay here again.Site 40 does not have a good level place to park, but it was so nice with the creek rushing by and the relative seclusion of the site. It's a little bit of a walk to the toilet. Site 32 had a much nicer level place to park, but was further away from the creek. It was set among other campsites, which made for a more community feel. It was also closer to the toilet.

Campground was peaceful. Little market and grill up the way that was convenient. A black bear visited our campsite, definitely need to use bear box at night! The site was nice bc we were the only ones there!

Beautiful campground, clean pit toilets, fire pit and bbq! Great spot to camp! Would love to camp here again.

Stayed here three nights total: two before our ascent to acclimate, and one the night we completed the hike to the Mt Whitney summit. Loved campsite 40. The bathroom is spotless and smells better than most people's homes - seriously!
No bear sightings or any wildlife really.
Only complaint and definitely not worth bumping down a star, was that the restaurant had all of its lights off at 6:30 despite the sign on the window saying last food order would be at 6:30. Would have loved to have a burger after we finished summitting Whitney in a single day without having to go into town.

Camp host was very pleasant and very helpful. Restroom was clean and well stocked. Restaurant had a capacity limit due to COVID 19 so I waited outside for everyone to order and once someone left for me to be able to enter, they said I was too late and couldn’t order at approx 5:30 p.m which was pretty disappointing. Everything else was great.
