This is a very underrated campground I really enjoyed. Ended up booking here bc I couldn't get reservations elsewhere and have to say that I really enjoyed it. The campsites seemed to be larger in Lower Gray's than Upper Gray's and overall I preferred the lower section of this campground much more. Many campsites have access to the creek and trees along the creek provide plenty of shade. It was also pleasant that this campground is apparently not that popular, so it was practically empty when I went in July. The mountains provided a nice backdrop and you had stunning views into the valley. Really nice also for stargazing at night time as you have an open sky with not much light pollution in this area.

Nice campground with large sites but minimal parking. Very windy when we were there. Good proximity to Independence and onion valley trailheads.

Used to have flush toilets at the campsite now you have out houses you digressed

It's a beautiful camp ground and very refreshing after some hot days at lower elevations. The camp hosts were super kind and helpful and the toilets really clean. There was no water when we got there but seems like the campers at Grays Meadows know how to handle themselves and everything was great

I was there to fish, which, this time was very good. So good, that I did not do anything else but fishing, cooking, eating, sleeping and the same again.Other times, when fishing was not so good, I enjoyed hiking to the Kersarge Mine, more serious ones in the upper Onion Valley.I also recommend visiting the Eastern Sierra Museum in Independence and the Mount Whitney Fish Hatchery (a few miles further up along the 395).

The camp ground maintenance has really been neglected over the years. The asphalt roads and camp sites need significant repair throughout. Was difficult backing my trailer into site 46 because of the large crack and missibg section of asphalt

I rated our visit as "excellent," but we actually didn't get to visit last fall because of wildfires in Inyo National Forest. Grays Meadows is still on our list, though.
