Very nice campground. Clean and lots of room at each site. Tip: enter the campground from the road in town, do not enter from Sherwin Creek off the 395. Long dirt road road that was incredibly bumpy!

We’ve camped in this campground annually for almost 50 years. The bear population is out of control, getting worse every year. The bears are getting bolder and more brazen, even during the day. My son was charged at by a very large bear one evening while protecting his 18 month old daughter and family while sitting by the campfire. Fortunately our dog was there to make a lot of noise and help scare him off. Very frightening. We, along with many other campers, have filed a complaint with the camp host about this problem and nuisance, but nothing is getting done about it. Hopefully it doesn’t take a tragedy to get a response.

The campground hosts were vey helpful and very nice . They kept the restrooms very clean but they were really smelly due to the heat . The bear(s) were a BIG problem . We kept all our items put away inside the bear box or put away inside our RV . A bear climbed through a partially open very high up drivers seat window on a large Class A motorhome . This was on my family's neighboring site to mine . The bear pushed the window open rest of way and pushed the screen in . The bear climbed inside the motorhome and proceeded to open cabinets & refrigerator . The bear ate and made a big mess inside . Also before leaving back out the window he left a deposit inside just making the situation worse . You could clearly see dirty paw prints around the window area & other parts of motorhome . So I guess you can not leave ANY window open on any type of vehicle or RV . This is really difficult due to the heat to try and keep the temperature down inside . The bear(s) came through the campground during the day & night so you really need to watch all the time . The bear broke into the motorhome during the middle of the day so they are NOT afraid of people at all . People were having a difficult time getting the bear to leave the area once they appeared . On another note the campground sites and all roads inside the campground are dirt . So be prepared for dusty & dirty conditions while camping and when some people do not drive slowly through the campground . There are many things to do while in the Mammoth area all the way from shopping , eating and recreational activities of all different types . There are campgrounds also all over in area that are more accessible and roads & sites paved so way more clean .
