Simply the Best Overall Campground in the Mammoth Lakes Area.

I've been coming here annually since the 70s, and for good reason. This campground offers everything: A beautiful location and surroundings, easy access to the camp & great activities, clean mountain air, a well-stocked general store, and a small town nearby.

On the west side (across the bridge) sites 46C & D are overly-spacious. The isolated site 70 (AKA The Bridal Suite), has always been a favorite of mine. Sites 31, 33 & 36 offer up a unique perspective, backed up against a forest meadow, and are also the first sites that the bears visit each night. Interior sites 22, 24 & 27 also have a spatial uniqueness to them. Sites 43, 44, 45, & 46 have a bit of an upslope upon entry, so come prepared if you have an RV. Sites 23, 25, 26 & 28 have a bit of a downslope upon entry. Site 62 is next to a pair of dumpsters.

On the east side, sites 1-8 are spacious, but are also right on the main access road: but, they are still good sites.

All other sites are great too. Just keep in mind that some of these sites are next to a restroom, which can attract some foot traffic; and, when the park is full, the interior sites can seem a tiny bit crowded to some.

Note that the west side gets better morning light, and the east side holds the sun longer. Once the sun goes down, and being in the shadow of Mammoth Mountain it does go down early, Twin Lakes gets chilly, even in summer. And afternoon wind is a guarantee. Pack for days in the low 80s and nights in the high 30s, Spring, Summer and Fall, and you'll be fine.

The General Store is well stocked, and offers boat rentals, fish tackle & cleaning station, and showers. Plus, there are great restaurants and a Vons in town.

There is a tram that runs every 30 minutes to everywhere.

Boating, fishing, hiking, exploring, cycling, horseback riding.

What Twin Lakes Campground doesn't offer is full hookups: so, if you can't survive without shore power and water, look elsewhere.

The campground itself was great, but unfortunately, our campsite was near water and trees, creating moisture that attracted an army of mosquitoes. In the future, if we go back, I will make a note to avoid campsites closer to the water.

Wonderful location, can hear the waterfall, in the trees, great fishing. Quiet nights, nice restrooms, easy trash disposal, well stocked General store, boat rentals. $15 for rv dump station, $8 shower, $0 rv water fill. Is at a higher altitude. Walking distance to free shuttle service/ every 30 min.s to everywhere! ; )
Bring your mosquito repellent and use the supplied Bear Box to fully enjoy!
