We love Twin Lakes. It is quiet and nature-focused. There is plenty to do from paddleboarding on the lakes, hiking, riding bikes, riding horses, walking or just relaxing around a campfire.

Stayed in site no. 59 on a Friday in July. Beautiful campground, very easy to get to, all roads are paved, huge area to pitch your tent(s) at each site, many bathrooms nearby. Bathrooms have flush toilet and sink but no soap. So bring your own soap. Washing waterspout right outside of bathrooms. Make sure you walk over to the little pier on the north lake at sunset; the mountain on the southeast side across from the lake catches the setting sun and reflects beautiful golden vista on the lake. Plenty of mosquitoes near the water, less but still quite a few farther inland. Bug spray is a must. We must have been lucky to be able to get a reservation just a few weeks before our trip. The general store is quite well stocked with necessities, and looks they have a $8 per person shower as well. We saw quite a few people booking that shower. The cute looking shuttle to town also stops at the general store, so is quite convenient if you don't want to drive out there. Lots of people were fishing at the lakes, many were boating and paddleboarding as well. You could rent those on site. We tried to hike to the base of the waterfall that you see on the south shore of the south lake, but gave up after the trail disappeared. It was a nice hike along the eastern shore though. That place has many nice cabins. Elevation is about 8,500 ft so please keep that in mind, although it acts as excellent acclimatization if you are hiking or backpacking even higher later on. We were backpacking to Twenty Lakes Basin the day after, so this was a big help. Fellow campers were all nice and quiet. I don't know how frequently the bathrooms were being cleaned, but they were in good shape throughout our stay. So close to Mammoth but $29 for overnight stay cannot be beat. I met the camp host Adam. Very courteous. All in all, a great place to camp. If we head up that way in the future, we will definitely try this one first since it is one of the very few reservable ones.

Campsite and campground were beautiful - wish we could have stayed longer! Bathrooms were clean and hosts were very friendly and thorough. Watch out for bears at night!
