overall a nice quiet campground that gives a good picture of the Dunes flora and fauna.

I loved how private the sites are. They are pretty wooded and have a good deal of space between them. The sites are also quite large. It would be nice if it were closer to the dunes but we knew going in that that was not the case. Although there are trains nearby they were not very loud and did not take away from the peaceful surrounding. We would stay here again if in the area.

Very nice shady spot in a quiet campground. Showers and bathrooms were always clean. We rode our bikes to the nearby beach everyday. Michigan City was a 10 minute car ride and had every store you could want. And a great brewery too-Shoreline. Easy drive to Chicago if you didn’t want to take the train that is close to the campground. Jane was an excellent camp host!

Dunewood exceeded our expectations! There is a lot to do there from hiking, biking and beaching! Bathrooms were fairly clean (3.5/5) as was the site (3). Site wasn’t very deep so it was difficult to park 2 vehicles and a 24’ trailer and not violate the “stay on pavement” mandate of all fed campgrounds. Staff was understanding of the situation. No on-site ice or firewood but it is close by. Go see “wheelbarrow man” for firewood (west on hwy 12 a 1/4 mile). The dump station is convenient but odiferous. You’ve got to see the 5 houses built in 1933 as part of the Chicago exposition, called Century of Progress on Lake Shore Drive. Beach access is limited but really nice! You have to be prepared for train and some traffic noise at night-look at a map and you’ll see that you are close to I-94, Hwy 12, Shoreline and Amtrak train lines. Tenters should be prepared, as it goes through the night.

Quiet and peaceful. Nothing too special, but definitely a low key and lovely place, which is exactly what we were hoping for.

Louder than I expected. Crazy hot rods, trains and semi’s all night on hwy12.
But the short drive to walking paths and beach make it worth it. You can walk to the restaurant, gas stations or train stations. Nice!
