We stayed at Dunewood Park, overnight, the second week of October on a trip down through Illinois. The Bad - We found it to be the most expensive campground we stayed at, due to having to purchase the additional park pass, with the least amenities (no hydro, water, or sewer). The restroom facilities in the park need to be updated and kept cleaner, and the showers had absolutely no hot water by 7AM. The Good - It's a quiet campground that's a short bike ride to the Lake Michigan shore, the campsite was fairly level for setting up the RV.

Clean campground with supply store nearby for firewood and forgotten items. It is separated from the main city areas which is nice so it feels peaceful and secluded. Near/30 mins or less to almost every beach at state and national parks.

I had booked my site for 3 nights and only stayed one ! I've never seen such a lousy National Park campground. I understand the eco stuff, but the overgrowth was so terrible that I knew why they had such a terrible tick and mosquito problem. I turned my generator on for charging my batteries and the people camped next to me hit the alarm horn on their car. There is nothing to see, everything was closed for repair along the Lakeview drive. I made the mistake of booking in the NP instead of the State Park. That must be where you can see the Dunes. There was something in the air that had my nose running and when my throat started to tighten and I could barely swallow, I left!! Dump is the best way to describe this place.

The sites are small and flat without any good options for hammocks, so I do not recommend if youre trying to hammock camp. The mosquitos were so bad even with bug spray that we ended up leaving and not actually staying the night.

NPS does everything right. During the first night we were in a beautiful walk-in campsite...More walk-ins! The second night in a car site...these sites have a lot of space between them, so you feel like you are in the woods! They seem to have separated the tents from the vehicle campers--which is great. I don't really want to be next to a camper with a generator or TV making noise. Owls at both campsites! I have camped at Dunewood many times. I always love it. Also the whole park seems to be flourishing as never before (I have been coming since it became a National Lakeshore in the 80s?) This must be good management. Thank you NPS for safeguarding this wonderful place.

Very nice campground! Facilities were nice and well kept and there were trails and sightseeing within walking distance.

Nice campsites, fairly private. The bathhouse was clean.

Be prepared for noise. The campground itself was not an issue, but highway and train noise were. My wife counted 21 train whistles over the course of the night.

Now of course the park can't control everything around it, but the proximity to the busy interstate highway and train tracks really should have been taken into account and maybe the Indiana Dunes National Park should be a day use park only.

This visit was our second time at the campground. We had enjoyed our 1st visit greatly. The campground s so peaceful that you wouldn't know you were very close to a large metro area. Check-in was very fast this time. However unlike our previous trip we weren't given anything to post at our campsite about length of stay. We have a camper van. If we would have needed to go somewhere in the day, it would not have been obvious that the site was taken.

I had a fun time camping here. I liked that I was able to come into the park late. It was very quiet. I also liked that my parking spot was paved.

Campsite was well maintained and a very short walk to restrooms and potable water. Very close by car or bike (6-8) miles to nearest towns so we opted to eat meals out .
On the negative side there was the low din of car traffic and trains all the time, so not exactly a back country experience.
