Dam West is one of our favorite Campgrounds on Lake Carlyle. There are walking trails. The one we like is over the dam. You can fish, boat, go to beach or just sit and watch the boats. There are restaurants and a Super Walmart in walking condition. A shell Gas/Diesel Station about 5 mins away. A short drive to Carlyle and there is a great Ice Cream Store. There are other places to drive to for interesting little towns. You will enjoy Dam West for a days stop or a few days. We enjoy going Monday through Friday.

Need to designate a specific dog walking area. We have been camping at Dam West since the mid seventies. It now seems everyone has a dog - we do not- but have grandkids. It is depressing to be playing with the kids on your site or eating a meal and having to watch dogs squatting and defecating .also having to book 6 months out is ludicrous,it is not uncommon to not get a site and have to go elsewhere.the camp hosts are pleasant and accommodating.But Dam West used to be the premier campground,there seems to be little involvement by the rangers anymore.Some of the sites appear to be party zones with trash and unkempt,with little child supervision ,especially ,at the campground .We we’re recently at Shelbyville Lake and the rangers would actually stop ,say “hi”and talk.
