This is an older campground & although the outside of the bathrooms look old they are clean, maintained with flushing toilets. The campground was clean. Sites vary in size. 036 Skipping Stone loop was uneven but doable with blocks to level. It was a short walk to the lake. Richard the camp host was super!

The camp host was helpful and always in sight making his rounds, cleaning restrooms, weeding etc. Campgrounds were very full and many with multiple tents.

Hot no shade! TOO many trees removed that were not damaged and had wide spread root systems with no near by competition. The logging did far more damage than the wind storm. It looked like someone went in with a paint can and marked more trees than were originally marked. Having grownup in the area and worked in the campground, seeing the abusive logging practice is enough to make one sick!

We really rely on reviews, especially when "Scenic Canyons" the third party doesn't answer questions regarding the campsite, I would like to say the reviews here are correct in stating that the campground has been "Clear Cut"- there are some trees here and there. ALSO, there were chain saws and wood chippers running at 3 and 4 A.M!!!! several of the days. The campground was pretty open- a lot of people weren't showing up. AND I DONT BLAME THEM- who wants to go camping and wake up at 3 a.m. to the sound of a chainsaw! I had tried to contact the campground to hear about the conditions I had read about and I was told "We haven't heard that trees were cut down, and that there were chain saws running during quite hours!". They told me I should call the forest service to find out about the trees. So, I Did and the guy who called me back-was cutting out and didn't understand why I was calling him, he advised that I call the campground.....and so I just crossed my fingers and drove the 1000 miles and hope for the best. I think its important to be upfront about the condition of the campground- and the fact that there is clean up being done at all hours of the day. I think the price should be reduced. I think most people that showed up were from out of state like us.

My beloved Sam Owen has gone through a war! Apparently a storm came through last Labor Day and knocked down some trees, so then “someone” decided that there should be massive logging in the campground. Skipping stones looks like a fish bowl. Most of the trees gone. Uneven ground and tons of tree stumps! Was this for the money? My husband and I visited Sam and Nina Owens graves while we were at the campground and they had rolled over in their graves they were so devastated!!!!

We have loved Sam Owen for years. It was hard to see the damage done from last years storm and so many trees down. Our hosts were wonderful and work so hard and are very appreciated. A bit disappointed in the Forest Service and how little they have done to make the park more presentable and available for campers.
