This campground is well-maintained and beautifully located next to a lake with clean/clear water. On top of this, it is wonderfully dog-friendly! Our campground host (Richard) did a good job keeping things tidy and in order, and from what I saw, he went above and beyond to ensure everyone had what they needed. Unfortunately, he could only do so much, as there was a rather inconsiderate family at a neighboring site that made noise (child would randomly scream for attention after 10p and past midnight while her parents completely ignored her; the parents [father especially] also talked loudly during "quiet time"). Richard did speak with them the next day, which did help. Aside from that family, others encountered were courteous and friendly--many were returning visitors. This stay was my third time at this campground--I only wish I had known about it years before!

Nice easy camping spot. Convenient lake access and the spot we were in was well-shaded.

We were at Sam Owen a year ago and saw the devastation from the blow-down. While we had a wonderful time and were aware all the work that had been done so we could camp, the damage was very evident. This year, grass and greenery covered the ground and it was beautiful. It rained a lot but we still had a terrific time. The lake and surrounding views are unbeatable and it remains my all-time favorite lake. I did get some swims in with a shorty wetsuit but that's not all that I love about this place. I'm so glad we were able to get reservations. It never felt crowded to me.

Nice campground right on the lake. Recently culled a bunch of trees and we're not cleaned up yet, but the campground was very nice. Camp host was also very nice.

Beautiful, quiet campground, great camp staff. Our favorite local campground by far.

An excellent site. Elbow room for several tents, extended family of eight, canoe, bikes. Water, bathroom nearby. Beach nearby. Fishing. Biking. Frisbee. Hiking up to the graves of Sam and Nina Owen who donated the land for public use. Close to camp hosts. Great view of the Monarchs on a clear day.
