We have been coming to Sam Owen since 2006. We love the campground and the access to the lake.

Be aware of weekend music from the Resort to the East. We were close to the water and the music carried. If you like free music, then you're in luck.Campground was very clean, bathrooms well stocked, beach was spotless. A number of options to stay or play.

Great location. Quiet, extremely beautiful views, including Green Monarchs. Flushable toilets was a nice surprise.

We were only here for a night, but the lake is a sight to be seen. Thought the campground was packed, our site was close to the water and it was so peaceful in the morning, and beautiful at sunset. Restrooms were clean, and if you are around a lot of RVs, like we were, and tent camping, you essentially don't have to worry about it being crowded.

This spring (2021), Sam Owen campground was extensively logged, to remove damaged trees from last year's wind storm. Unfortunately, this has left the campground in a very disheveled state. There is debris from that logging operation all over the campground. Much of the undergrowth has been removed by logging equipment. In this climate, I think it will take at least 2-3 years before enough undergrowth returns to make this an attractive camping area. Maybe longer if the drought persists.
The facility and location is still very nice.
