This is a great campground and access to the dog beach was a bonus. Helpful and friendly campground host. Unfortunately, the bathroom near us was closed, as was the nearby pit toilet so we got in more steps than expected! We appreciated a bit of shade in our campsite as many of old trees in the campground were removed after a dangerous blow-down. Sam Owen is still a very nice place to camp right on the lake!

Site was a bit tight to get into, lots of small cement posts made it difficult to put the trailer in spot. Camp ground was clean and great location next to the lake. Bathrooms had running water but no door on the toilet stall. Could use a shower station, dumping the trailer was an extra charge. Staff were friendly and tried to be helpful.Good location for short stays and convenient location to local towns.

This was a beautiful location on a pristine lake. The campsite was very spacious and the host Richard was delightful to talk to. We stayed on the Stone Loop and the only downside was the mens bathroom was not working at the nearest bathroom to our site, but it was a short walk to another one. There are no showers and we didn't see any water spickets that were approved for washing dishes. Please don't wash your dishes in the lake! Find another way.

The views from the site were amazing. Great access to the lake for getting the dogs swimming and launching our boat. The caretakers were very responsive as well. Bathrooms were clean and well stocked. I would have rated 5 stars except for the site and access. We were in site 34 which states it is good for up to a 36' RV. My trailer is 34' including the tongue. I am very experienced at backing in tight areas but with the angle of the site, the width of the road and the short concrete pillars on either side of the road. Once I got the trailer into the site there was so much slope to it that I had to use over a foot of blocking under the front jacks just to get it leveled. We enjoyed our time there but would recommend some improvements in the future to allow better access.

This is NOT about the recent logging or the debris from the logging project. The campsites used to be kept spotless...they no longer are. When the Forest Service managed the campground directly, the campsites were raked between camper check out and the next camper check in, and it lent an "organized and clean" sense to the campground. With the new vendor managing the campground, that seems to no longer happen and the many of the areas of the campground seem in unnecessary disorganization with debris impinging on the campsites, and in some cases no longer any reasonable places to pitch a tent.. The restrooms, however, were kept up well. Now for the logging activity: It was rather heart wrenching to find many of the campsites no longer with any shade trees. However except in some of the more extreme cases, there will be both new growth and existing trees that were left will do quite well, and it will return to more of a park like setting in a few years.

Last year we stayed at Sam Owes in the scented leaf loop and our experience was wonderful, sites were beautiful and well kept, camp hosts were fantastic as well, greeting us shortly upon arrival. This wonderful experience prompted us to return this year with friends ( they traveled 4 hrs to meet us). The new site was across from the water and we were excited to return.
What a HUGE disappointment. The sites looked like ground zero of a nuclear
attack. I realize there was a major storm last year after our visit but it doesn't explain w
hy there was no apparent attempt to clean up the damage. The damage done from the storm pales in comparison to the destruction done by the logging of the upturned trees. Burn piles are seen at every site as well as no areas excavated to create a flat area to pitch our tent.( We slept on a downward slope. ) To say it was disappointing is an understatement. We also never saw our campground host. When we finally found a host ( after we went looking) he simply said, "yes we put in a request to have forestry to come clean this up." INFURIATING!! that doesn't explain why our site was not raked or leveled or why our host never appeared. We never even received our car pass. Needless to say it was embarrassing when our friends arrived. When we departed we drove by the first site we enjoyed last year, although there was obvious signs of tree damage the sites themselves looked well kept . Kudos to the hosts of scented leaf, and shame on you to the people responsible for the care of skipping stone loop. I will probably not be able to convince my husband to return if I ever even entertain the idea.
