It was a bit cold because if the snowfall earlier that week. Part of the site was closed. The host was wonderful and explained everything.

We had a great experience and the facilities were kept clean well.

When we first arrived at our reserved campsite, what we initially saw was a very big disappointment. Even though I was hoping for something close to one of the restrooms, and water pump area, this site had the tent pitching area way too close, like 15 feet away from the restroom, out in the open, close to the road and no shade. Then magic happened. One of the park rangers drove by. Her name was Katie, I believe. She was very courteous and helpful. She advised us that there were some first come first serve sites available. So we took a ride back down the road from the upper panhandle area we were at. While still worried that we might not find anything decent. What we saw amazed us. I was thinking alright, what's the catch here? Of course, there were some spots without that much shade but that was mostly around the picnic table area which is normal. Everything else was PERFECT. The restroom was a little way up the hill but opposite the tent area, but not too close to where it would disturb our privacy. It was peaceful and quiet throughout most of the day and ALL night.

I would normally rate this site 5 stars but this time it was bad. Only 3 or 4 working water hydrants in the whole campsite. Camp host non existent and oblivious to the issues.

Site is very exposed to sun. UV index there is 13 which is extreme. You have been warned. Other than that, wind is strong as it is exposed compared to other sites. FIres were limited to propane cooking only. Mcwilliams is a well-groomed camping area overall. We will be back!

Camping here is a must to remove yourself from the desert heat and hustle & bustle of the city. This great escape offer an array of hiking, mt biking and the educational pieces throughout the park. Or just come for the immense beauty and stare at the 12,000 ft Mt Charleston in awe as the lights change.High on my list of Nevada bests!
