Great beach access, campsite was in excellent condition and very well maintained, camp hosts were very friendly, secluded site.

We planned this trip specifically to camp on Lake Michigan, and didn’t realize this camp site was right on US 2. Half of the sites are more towards the water, and it’s possible the sound of the road wasn’t as bad as it was at the sites closest to the road. After a couple of days the cars finally started to sounded like white noise, but it was difficult sleeping as the truck traffic and noise was very intense starting at about 5 A.M.. Walking over to the beach was amazing though, and once you walked through the tree line the noise of the road was gone. So if you are going to be exploring a lot and spending your time on the beach this may not be a bad place to go, but we were really trying to camp at the Wilderness sites, which are on Lake Michigan but on the lower peninsula side. That is a totally remote area, with no traffic. I’d say the best part of this site was coverage from the wind; Wilderness can get very windy as there is no coverage to protect you from the wind coming off of the lake.
The mushroom hunting was wonderful, and exploring the UP is such an experience. There was almost no one staying at this camp ground, and you cannot see any of the other campers. The toilets were very clean. We couldn’t hear any generators coming from campers. Some sites have very minimal parking, and most sites are walk-up, so being in a camper may mean setting up away from the campfire ring. The campfire ring was actually a good design, and we were able to cook all of our meals on it.
We will probably never stay at this site again, but it’s worth checking out once. This camp ground needs better description of sites, although people may not go here if they did. It’s also very difficult to determine where the sites are located, as far as closer to the road or the beach. Camping is always a blast in this beautiful state of ours.

right on the lake. really nice large sites with good separation and a ton of trees. facilities were some of the best maintained i have seen. water pumps worked fine but the water was pretty yellow so we only used it for washing. biggest drawback is that it is right adjacent to a very busy and loud highway. you here semi trucks through the night going really fast.

Highway noise was significant and disrupted sleep.
