We went up to camp so we could experience the synchronous fireflies. We enjoyed the site on the creek. Cleanliness of the park. Friendliness of the rangers and the walk into the woods to experience the beautiful light show from Mother Nature. Definitely will return.

We stayed in site L2 which is great for tent camping and had good privacy and shade. Easy walk to the bathrooms which were clean and had soap and toilet paper well stocked. Then only negative was generator use in the evenings. The L loop is generator free but campsite L2 overlooks K which could be quite loud when generators were running. Overall a great campground with many areas to explore and stream wading/swimming within walking distance of the campsite.

The stagf is doing a great job in very busy periods. portable toilets were kept in great shape. Clear communication about bear proofing site. Would be good to have that posted on tables. Remind campers of quiet hours as many new campers. This is the best management of firefly event in the 6 years I have camped and attended. Trolleys should NEVER be brought back. They are disruptive and the larger crowds are dangerous. Rangers were available to direct people, answer questions and most people had red lights.

As advertised bathrooms were closed. Porta potties were cleaned daily. L loop was nice up the hill. Stayed at L2 which has a moderate inclined driveway. L2 overlooks most of the other campers nearby. You can still hear the Creek down the way at night. Dogs were barking on and off. Campsites are a bit closer together. Great trails around the campground. Easy drive from Gatlinburg.

The volunteers were outstanding. My campsite had some damage at bottom of drive and they made sure I was aware and offered me another site also. The campground was clean and the porta toilets spotless. I did have an issue that RV campers in another loop were playing music loudly and using a STROBE LIGHT that flashed over the treetops in the whole campground. I get migraines and sometimes seizures from strobe lights. I was surprised staff did not address it. I finally hiked down at 11pm and asked them to turn it off. They were nice and did so but again - I am surprised a strobe light is even allowed in the campground. It had to be disorienting to wild life as well as campers like me. Elkmont is an treasure and the staff is overall very helpful and do a great job. Trails were in good shape. I did not even go in the main bathrooms as I brought water with me.

The campsite is very quiet at all hours of the day, rather pastoral really. If you don't like the noise of generators, stay in the campsites in Loops L, M, and N. The rangers are very friendly and helpful, and they have interpretive activities there throughout the week. My favorite is the night hike with a ranger. It has several activities within the campground, including the Elkmont self-guiding nature trail. It also has Daisy Town on the back end, which was used by the Appalachian Club back in the logging hey day in the early 1900s. You are now allowed to explore many of the cabins. You can also rock away on the porch of the Appalachian Club. Literally, a river runs through it so you can tube with the kiddos or just tube on your own. Watch those currents, however! Make sure you bring a huge tube so your bottom doesn't hit too many rocks. Restrooms with running water are conveniently spread throughout the campground, and each one contains a sink where you can wash dishes. The camping pads on which to pitch tents are spacious. River sites book quickly, but honestly, I actually prefer some of the sites along Loop L which are away from the river but are more spread out and offer more solitude. It is my favorite place to camp not just in the Smokies, but in God's earth.
