This is the best campground. We have been coming here for twenty years.

Great experience. They just dont let you run generators if youre not in your site. It doesnt say that in the national park rules so not sure if they just feel that way or its legit. Got a few nasty grams on my camper door even though I was sleeping inside my trailer with the genny running. Other than that its beautiful there.

Even though the campground was "FULL" No campsites available (Sold OUT) less than 50% of the sites were occupied during the week day/nights. Several of the Prime river front sites were empty the whole week we were there. My top sites I like 1 was empty the entire time and I have tried for 6 months in advance AND checking every day during the 6 months for any cancellations. I noticed several campers that were from Knox / Blount counties with campsites that setup and left during the week (Going back home ??) only to return Friday & Saturday nites. The campground (Elkmont) is not being kept up the roads are filled with potholes, the campsites parking pads have not been blown off (Leaves & Debris etc) in a very long time, making backing into slots hard to see the parking pad edges (they use to do this almost every day in years past experience). the gravel (Granite pebbles ?) park service has used around the tent pads, campfire ring, Curbside of the RV/Vehicle parking area is mostly gone causing muddy areas and TRIP hazards next to the pavement. The bathroom in the J/K section is deplorable it is sunk too low to surrounding ground levels and puddles of muddy water standing on the floor. These were redone last maybe 10 years ago that I recall.Still no Dump station within the campground (have to go to Sugarlands visitor center 5-6 miles down the road), this causes RV'ers to drag portable sewer dump totes into the bathrooms and/or outside slop sinks to dump excess waste if their holding takes are full and they don't want to go down the road to dump.I have been camping at elkmont since the 1960's it's not the same. The current reservation system has FLAWS and seeing empty campsites with the number of hours I spent for 6 months Plus trying to get decent sites pisses me off. I love the fact of the developed campground as is (no electric etc.). This last experience was the worst as far as upkeep in the facilities. The rangers & campground hosts are THE BEST!

Spent one night at Elkmont. Friendly staff. Nice place to get away from the heat.
