We spent 1 night at Elkmont Campground in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park on the 24th of October. Fall color was brilliant, although a bit post-peak as many leaves had already fallen. The campground itself was well maintained, and a welcome respite from very heavy auto traffic and overcrowding we experienced during this busy season in nearby towns and at the Sugarlands Visitor Center. On a ranger's suggestion, we took a short walk through the campground to the Elkmont "ghost town". This was an interesting collection of partially-restored cabins that we had not seen on previous visits to the park.

Multiple Flush toilet houses were closed due to staff shortage. Really disappointed. Otherwise, my favorite campground. Not your typical campground. Must bear proof after every meal. Cucumber trail was cool. Daisy town very interesting. Synchronized fire flies stole the show. Visit cades cove around dusk to see bears

Camping bathrooms went 4 days without being cleaned; however, when cleaned, the lady did a wonderful job. No soap or hand dryers. No camp host on site. Hiking trails were not well market but the rangers were helpful in providing information.

I have camped at Elkmont for over 50 years. It is as gorgeous as ever. There are some improvements and upgrades needed. The largest campground in the Smoky,s does not have a dump station. I understand the national parks are to preserve nature, but you have to make some concessions for the campgrounds. The campground roads need paving and possibly a bathroom or 2 added. More handicap sites with the 5 amp plug in would be great for the older crowd. o help keep the bears out have bear proof storage containers in the tent section, like at Balsam Mountain. I have talked to many people working at the park and was upset to hear that there are so few park rangers. It seems our government is able to fund a lot of social programs in our country and other countries, but can't keep up our national parks.

We enjoyed our stay very much. It would have been better if the restrooms would have been open.

I'm relocating to the area for work, so my plan for now is to be visiting off and on a few days at a time, till I find something more permanent. It works great as it is very peaceful and relaxing for me to unwind and enjoy afternoons and evenings. Perfect get away! I will be coming back 1st week of August and book tomorrow.

stayed three nights as always very nice place to stay. Really only two complaints the bathrooms can always be cleaner i dont know why they never look up and get all spider webbs and bugs down they make brushes o and let me go to desn poled for this purpose and they are not that expensive. But my main complaint is the firewood when we where there it had just rained for two days straight so collecting firewood was useless also not easy to find.didnt come to park to hunt firewood and cut it but this is what you have to do to have fire. Because the firewood they sell is JUNK and WILL NOT BURN i dont care how good your kindling is or how hot fire it wont burn they have already baked all the alcohol out of the wood. if they dont want to let you bring your own wood then have a place where they bring down trees to cut up and let me go to specific spot ant ct or let guys selling wood cut it up and sell that wood with out heat treat.
