Great location to Gatlinburg, and Alum cave hike. Campsites are pretty close together, but it was a nice.

The campground was nice. No Showers but a creek. Very quiet and beautiful. To much traffic in the park. 2.5 hours to see any attractions what a nightmare.

My husband and I had a great stay at Elkmont with our dog. It is a beautiful and quiet site with a large creek/small river running through. A large number of the individual campsites are right on the water with amazing views. Lots of hikes nearby. We enjoyed visiting Townsend for a more laid back less touristy town visit compared to Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg. Great coffee shops and seemed to be lots of great options for activities like rafting and tubing - we did not get a chance to do those.

This is a pretty good campground for boondocking. We did just have a small tent for one night. Very quiet and very dark. Bring your lanterns and flashlights! Pack your food into your vehicle NOT YOUR TENT! Not even a morsel. That keeps you and your loved ones safe!! And keeps the native critters out of your tent. That includes the bears or the mice. Beautiful area!!

Three nights, two full days. Nice campground, not too close to your neighbor, nice wooded area. Creek nearby was great! Spence cabin and the trail walking by other torn down remains was cool. Cliff jumping and swimming in the sinks was amazing. Clingmans dome was challenging climb, but worth it, even though it was so foggy out. Cades cove wasn’t that great for three hours to get around. But we did see deer at the visitor center. I was expecting bathrooms not port a potty’s. I did not notice on the website that bathrooms were closed. But the port a potty’s were kept very clean and not smelly!!! Park wasn’t too terribly busy.

Elkmont campsites are good size and not too close together. Little sun gets past the trees so it tends to stay damp, especially after it rains. Could stand to be modernized with cell phone or even WiFi service. Camp store only sells wood and ice. Don’t forget inner tubes for floating down the river on warm days. Also, hiking map only shows the trail, talk to a ranger or do your research before hand on trail details such as difficulty level, elevation change, and estimated hiking time.
