Elkmont is one of the premier National Park Campgrounds, however mgmt is lacking. I am not knowledgeable of the budget issues. Currently only about half the restrooms are open. The mowing seems to be delayed. AND tourist traffic is being permitted in the camping areas. Not only is this a nuisance, it is a safety issue with small children in the area. It is so bad even the Pigeon Forge tour groups are driving though.

Elkmont is located in a beautiful setting. Two obvious shortcomings are the absence of working sewage system and street in need of paving.
Campsites adjacent to streams are delightful. Other campsites are located in muddy depressions.

Elkmont was beautiful, as always. It was extremely hot that weekend, though. Several campers ran their generators well past the 8 pm limit, and the park officer didn't ask them to turn them off until nearly 9:30 pm. The bath houses were closed due to a water system renovation, but the port-a-potties that were provided were much nicer than those you see at sporting events. All in all a really nice camping trip; this campground is one of my favorites.
