Elkmont is our favorite campground. Loved being on the river and getting to see so many different animals. We even had a blackbear come into the campground.The Rangers are friendly and the restrooms are clean. Highly recommend.

Been camping at Elkmont for over 25 years and I know there may be better or as good camp grounds closer than 6 1/2 hrs drive, but just can’t go anywhere else!

I only gave this a 4-star review because the weather was rainy, something the camp can't account for, and because the shower house was closed, something we were notified of during reservation. On a nice day, with a place to take a shower, this campground would be pretty idyllic. We stayed at G-9, which is right on the river. It's a great spot for a tent or a very small camper. I wouldn't recommend this site if you have small children with the river so close, but if you enjoy the white noise and a lovely view, this campsite is great. Heavy tree cover through most of the loop we were in so I imagine Elkmont could be comfortable even in the hotter months. I plan to get back here for a longer stay soon.

First of all, the restrooms were out of order. Repairs to the sewage system. So they had porta potties.😔
Next, no cell phone coverage in the campground. And of course no electricity or water hookups!
Come on, this is 2021! The park service needs to get out of the 19th century.🙄

In Section G & H not only are the bathrooms closed 24/7, but the sink for dish washing is closed. Plan ahead knowing this!! We try not to used paper and plastic items that go into the trash, but wash our dishes. My advise is not to have dishes to wash until things are back to normal. The port-a-potty needs to be cleaned very day!!! I think they are only clean 5 days a week. Very unpleasant using them on days they have not been cleaned!!!!!! TIP- Hang your flashlight or head lamp on the hook in the potty at night in order to see. Elkmont is beautiful and we lived thru no bathrooms and the nasty port-a potty. Have Fun and enjoy the beautiful mountains.

Restrooms are down due to so maintenance. However, Park Sevices are doing an excellent job with portable restroom facilities. There are plenty of of regularly cleaned porta potties as well as “Royal Restrooms” for an upscale experience that includes handicap accessibility. Always fantastic at Elkmont even with maintenance.

The waterfront campsite by the river was absolutely gorgeous. This is one of my favorite places I've ever camped. The campsite is central to the entire park and it's a great place to base yourself as you explore the park! They also cleaned the bathrooms while I was there which was really nice. Loved the camp store too. Overall 10/10 and I will definitely be coming back!

We get this same site each year. It's close to the water, has multiple trees setup perfectly for hammocks, plenty of shade to block the sun, and close to both the trash and bathrooms.
