The entire campsite is a mix of gravel and asphalt however no vehicles or tires are allowed on the gravel. You can't really put a tent on the gravel for comfort reasons, you cant put your vehicle on the gravel to utilize the space for parking so you end up with a vast majority of the campsite completely unused for anything at all. This creates unnecessary issues with parking vehicles in your campsite and unnecessary drama with the security coming around telling you you cannot park on the gravel because of rules when there are no written rules about this anywhere.

It was great camping in the park unplugged.

Had a very pleasant and restful time at Elkmont. However, there were some issues: garbage cans had been removed from the restrooms, and toilet paper had been left all over the floor which made added work for the maintenance crew. When asked why the removal, staff stated it was due to bears entering the restrooms to get to the garbage cans. Also, no mowing had been done in the campground, and the weeds and grass were knee high. The peace and tranquility that we used to find at Elkmont has been destroyed by all the rental razor 4 X 4's traveling up to Daisy Town and back. It would help if they were required to have better mufflers while visiting the national park.

Elkmont is a very nice campground with lots of mature trees and a mountain stream. Sites are spaced well with both RV and tent sites. RV dump station is located near Sugarlands visitor center, a few miles away. The dump station was built with most RVs heading downhill, preventing complete emptying of the waste tanks. We found the location provides quick access to the south end of Gatlinburg without all of the traffic when coming from the north end of town. We'd like to see all of the GSM campgrounds expanded to add additional sites, electric hookups and dump stations.

I have been going to Elkmont for over 40 years. Great to go back to basics. No Cell phones, TV, electronics. Just enjoy nature. Many trails you can hike in Elkmont, or nearby. Bring a tube and tube down the ice cold Little River. Grandkids enjoyed meeting other kids and riding bikes with them all over campground. KIDS BEING KIDS AGAIN!!!

Thoroughly enjoyed the campsite especially on short notice. It was unfortunate that the campground store was closed on Sunday. We would have loved to have a campfire.

Always appreciate the Elkmont atmosphere. Being in the mountains is wonderful. Sitting around the campsite watching the wild turkeys and listening to the Little River flow over the rocks is a little piece of heaven. My favorite place for camping.

Elkmont Campground is our favorite place to camp. Close enough to Gatlinburg if you want to shop or eat out. Staff is very friendly and helpful.
