We love camping at Elkmont. We have done it many times over the last few years. We always get a site which allows generator use so we have power. The campground is clean and well kept. The rangers and park employees are professional, helpful and nice. My two complaints are this. The dump station and potable water spicket across from Sugarland needs to be widened. I can not get my 5th wheel in that tight space. I had to use a water bladder in the back of my truck to get water and we camped at a State Park when we left to dump our tanks. My second complaint was with my campsite in the E loop. When it rained, all the water runoff from the street came directly into my site. We were underwater until it quit raining and dried out.

Having camped at Elkmont for over 30 years, initially in tents, more recently in travel trailer, weve come to view it as almost a second home. In that span of time, of course, weve seen the inevitable changes from seasonal weather and extreme weather events, plus the tremendous increase in crowds in the Park. However, the area also remains familiar, and in some ways, unchanged; We recognize boulders and even some trees that weve known for these three decades. Plus, the subtle improvements to the campground itself have not gone unnoticed. The tent pads are great and many sites are pleasantly secluded. Book early!

Good site. It is a little cramped, but I was able to get our 5th wheel via the campground a d into our site (which we vetted to make sure it was appropriate length etc. for our rig). The campground was very busy. Lots of poison ivy in unmowed areas, so we kept our dog and kids on a short leash so to speak. Be careful if you plan to use the water fill/dump near sugarlands visitor center. It was tight for our rig (5th wheel and 4dr F250 total length ~ 50). Yes we were pushing the size limits, but its a tight loop to turn in. I did it, but in the daylight and didnt attempt it a second time to be safe.

Would have 5 stars but we decided to leave early and went to the front office to cancel the last day to be nice and let others have a chance to camp there. I got home the email said I was charged $40 $10 for a cancellation fee and $30 for one night. I dont mind paying for the one night but if I would have not said anything and just left it would only have cost the $30 for the night. Lesson learned.

Over all we enjoyed camping at Elkmont. We did get in trouble for having one of our hammocks on a tree that was only 9 inches wide instead of the required 10 inches, so I guess have the rangers measure your trees before you set up hammocks.

We camp at Elkmont at least twice every year. It rates #1 as our most favorite place to camp. Its location enables us to have access to many area hiking trails and other attractions of the Smokies.

We love Elkmont and have been coming there for over 30 years. Its convenient to the activities we enjoy in the park without feeling the crush of being the most visited park in the US.

Have been going to Elkmont for about 30 years. Last couple of years have been disappointing. Campground is not being taken care of. When we arrived it looked like grass had not been cut in weeks. Weeds growing up everywhere. Roads are in horrible condition. Huge pot holes everywhere or should I say craters! (In A loop going out there are two that are almost impossible to miss. Someone is going to lose a tire and rim!!!!! PLEASE take better care of this beautiful campground. Went over to Smokemont to check it out. It was in MUCH better condition Also $10 for a few pieces of wood????

Perfect get away: no cell, no electricity. Just people in nature. Fireflies, great trails. Memorable experience.

One our favorite campgrounds in the southeast. Close to services, but has the National Park charm, essence and experience. Never grown tired of this campground after 20+ visits.
