It was beautiful at Elkmont. We had a large campsite (e10). There is no service at all up there and I quite enjoyed disconnecting from the world. Our campsite was close enough to the river to hear it and at night that was super comforting. We did have a severe thunderstorm but we faired just fine. The bathrooms were nice and clean and not a far walk. I really loved staying here and my boyfriend did too. Make sure you go to Cades cove while youre here.

Can’t beat the location and the campsites. We’ve been going to Elkmont for years and still enjoy the experience. The park seems understaffed and in need of grounds maintenance. We had knee high grass in our campsite and the roads in some places need major work. Other than volunteers we saw very little staff; never saw let alone talked to a ranger.

If your going to have rules, you need someone to enforce them. The campers beside us ran their generator past 9:30pm both nights they were there. They had their generator in the back of their pick up. The back of the pickup was aimed toward our campfire. We could hardly hear each other talk. One night the generator was running and they were at another campsite up the road. Then other campers started leaving their generators running until 10:00PM. The paper we were given at check in said generator use prohibited between 8:00PM until 8:00AM. I also don't think it is fair for people to rent a campsite for a family gathering and not be camping there. People were parking in other campsites. When one guy in a class B camper came back from Gatlinburg, he had to find out who was parked in his spot to get them to move so he could get back in his spot. I saw volunteers walk through the campground but never a Ranger.

Quiet, peaceful campground inside Smoky Mountains. Love hearing and playing in the river during the stay. Would of stayed more , but we were tenting and the weather was not cooperating. This is the 2nd year we have stayed here.

The Rangers at Elkmont were very helpful. They seem to be taking care of the Campground by patrolling in their golf carts. They were able to provide red balloons to go over flashlights. The campground is beautiful.

Great campsite that is away from the mayhem of Gatlinburg.

Really liked the Elkmont campground, the only thing I had an issue with was the potholes in roads in the campground which were huge.
Clean, wonderful shade trees, right on the edge of a rapidly flowing creek... beautiful. Close to hiking trails. Utilized the RV dump station, very convenient. Thank you.

Have been going to Elkmont every summer for several years. I knew that this summer would be different because of COVID but it was bad. We were in E10 and I could barely walk my dogs the grass was so high. Everyone was sneezing and coughing with all the weeds blooming. No services at all. No ice, no firewood, which is a real problem because you are so far from any stores. Really sad. I love the Smokies and am a member of the Association.

I have been going to Elkmont for 58 years and always love the experience. Great hiking at Alum Bluff, biking at Cades Cove on no-car Wednesdays, and Pancakes in Gatlinburg. This years experience was dampened by new rules set by one ranger at Elkmont. I would have expected rules to be established by the leadership of the national park service. Instead one ranger with over the top rules has taken over. Case and point: we can no longer leave out water jugs. Reason given: because we have touched the nozzles on the jugs and will attract bears. We touch literally every thing on the camp site. When I questioned the validity of these new rules the ranger threatened me being able to return in the future. One out of control ranger can damage so much of a wonderful experience. I am glad for well thought out, team developed, rules to protect people and park. This was a one man incident this year that needs to be addressed by the park service.

Mobile Data Speed Map
#123
If there are speed tests submitted for a campground the campsite icons will be colored based on the average download speed and the border will be colored based on the average upload speed.
In this example Campsite #123 has very good download speeds and decent upload speeds. If a campsite has a solid yellow color it means there was no data speed detected in the test(s). Clicking on a campsite icon reveals more details.
