We had a wonderful fall Smokies experience with our site on the Little River. Bathrooms were always clean. Tent pad/ fire pit/ picnic table were all as expected. First night a bear showed up in the campground about 3 bus lengths from where I was preparing dinner on my camp stove and I had to quickly move everything to the car and lock up. Ranger came before I finished putting my stuff away and scared him off. Definitely be prepared for a bear visit if you come.

The campground was in a nice location. Nice sites on the river, and nice sites away from river. Facilities were lacking and underwhelming. Staff was professional and kind...helpful. But accommodations were lacking attention, which was apparently due to hiring issues. The "C, D, E, and F" restroom facilities were locked while those loops were all full with campers. Inexcusable and inexplicable. The facility at the end of "F" loop was open, but its only two toilets, and there was no soap and no paper towels...just an electric hand dryer. It was clean, but hardly accommodating for the number of people in the area. The common areas and grassy areas were overgrown. Perhaps that was by design, "natural setting", but it gave the appearance of being unkempt. Finally, it's disappointing that a National Park allows for the operation of generators between the hours of 8am to 8pm ANYWHERE within the campground. It's camping. We visit these national wonderlands to exploit nature, its beauty and solitude. Nobody wants to hear the drone of engines running for hours. Especially when the campsites are in very close proximity to each other. It's maddening, and generators have no place in any group environment.

Staff & fellow campers were helpful, polite, and friendly. The area is absolutely gorgeous!

clean campgrounds right on the little river. the rushing water is kind of loud, but still very peaceful. the area looks real nice in the fall too. the ranger staff is way more vigilant about parking and other violators, but that’s a good thing imo. fairly close to gatlinburg if you need supplies or whatever. it’s also a short drive to laurel falls which is a nice rewarding hike. there’s a nice easy nature walk located on site too if you don’t want to leave the site. our tent pad (E-9) was level, really close to the water and not full of huge rocks. i recommend this park and would stay again.

Online it said the bathrooms would be open for an hour in the morning and an hour in the evenings, but they were not. There was no wood for purchase, no concessions/store for kids for treats. The sites are much smaller and closer together than we are used to, and the campground itself appears run-down, old and not well-maintained. There are not many trees in the central part of the campground, so finding kindling is difficult. Check-in was efficient. We loved being next to the river and having the ability to go down and play in it during the heat of the day. There are definitely a lot of bees near the water, and in the parking areas of each campsite. It was nice having Gatlinburg so close, to be able to go to town for dinner instead of cooking at the campsite. We ended up deciding to not cook at all during our stay and traveled in to town for meals for a change of pace while camping. Overall, we had a good experience, it was just a lot different than nearby Cades Cove and some of the other national park campgrounds we have experienced.
